I typically fish from a kayak in lakes, ponds and streams in CT and have 3 rod holders. Two behind the seat and one front-center. I have a 4' 6" ultra-light rod, and a 6' 6" medium rod. I often use the 3rd rod holder to hold a small anchor.  What else should I have. Today I was in the Connecticut River and a small pond on the east side of the river. I only took the medium with me and wished I had taken the ultra-light just to have a second rod. What do others carry on a yak? Maybe another medium with a different line weight?

I would carry something like a travel ultralight, something that you can put together or telescope or something like that if the fishing gets really hot. It really depends on what you're fishing for, like if its something big I'd go with another medium.

Now I have 2 mediums (one 6'6" the other 7').  I was succesful in snapping the ultralight, so now I'm looking into another ultralight.

A six pack. LOL. I have only used yaks for casual cruising, so I really have no clue.

Well, I wouldn't bring my tackle box with me, thats for sure!

What happens if you flip over?

This did start out as a serious question, but now I can't resist the Dr. Seuss comparisons.  How long can this keep going:

If I were to carry a six pack on my yak, where would I rack my nap sack..........

Lot's of options for sure Paul. Why not a medium light outfit...say in the 6 1/2 - 7 ft & 4-10 lb test range?

Have a reel with 2 different spools....1 with light line...1 with heavier.

Sounds like you carry alot. I fish strip pits, ponds, and creeks, with my kyak. I take a 6 foot lightweight rod with 6 lb mono line, and a small plano box packed full of bomber mini fat A, in assorted colors mostly crawdad brown. I put that in a small takle bag with pliers and extra line. I don't have an anchor or rod holders, but you set up to best suit your needs, as long as your fishing.

Here's a little trick that some folks use to help carry a larger arsenal with them on their yaks...
