I've been making my own jigs and weights for a couple years now but never painted them. My question is how do I get the jigs ready to paint just rinse them off with water and wipe them off with a rag or is there something else I should do.

I'm not sure you need to clean them, unless they have oil on them. If so use a soap and water or nampa which is lighter fluid with out the perfume. I painted some and I used the powder paint and I didn't clean them and they came out great. Just heat the jig head with a lighter and dip it in the powder and thats it.

    The powdercoat works great!
Get a little butaine burnner and just wave the jighead over the flame until warm then dip it in the paint.
I have tried the lighter and a candle to heat them but its amaizingly easy to melt the head this way.
A bit of practice is required.

I wouldnt even try to paint the eyes. Go to barlowstackle.com or jannsnetcraft.com and get the stick on eyes. Just peel and stick,

Hey Brain: It's gonna be a bit longer for me. I won't start again until April. Yea it would be nice to get together again. I'm not fishing the circut next year. Just gonna fish a few open tourny's and just fun fish for a year. I haven't been able to fish Palmer and Whitestone in 4 years. If I get over to the Pot Holes I'll let you know.

I use a tooth pick to apply the paint eyes.  Works great!  Of course I dip paint all my jigs and the only thing I do is make sure there is no dirt hanging on them...I use a white primer before I apply the color and then I apply a clear coat.  I hope this helps!
