I'm new to ice fishing (this year will be my first time) and I was wondering how you catch pike and muskie.  I am planning on using pike minnows (suckers) with my regular ice fishing rod.  Will I need a wire leader?  If so, what size?

Our Muskies are closed for the ice season, but Pike's are open for most of the ice season.

I don't use tip ups so I can't help you on that part. I don't personally jig for pikes, but I will on occassion throw a Salmo Chubby Darter size 6 for a pike. Anyway, I've caught pikes on various set ups on jigging and even deadstick techniques. Some meat will always seal the deal easy. Pikes will take a fathead minnow easy. It's cheaper for me this way and I get to catch other kinds of fish too.

Although I will plan on doing more Lake Trout fishing this season so I have a more dedicated rod for this style. Gonna run a baitcaster with 14# Fireline and 20# mono as a leader. If I get bit off, I will toss in the steel leader somewhere between 10 and 20 lb test.

Other lures I will be using with a fathead hooked on: Buckshots spoons, Bucktail Airplane Jigs, Swedish Pimples, Luhr Jensen Castchamps, etc. , ...

If you're using tip-ups BIG bait, suckers/creek chubs, 20lb. flouro leader tipped with a titanium leader off of that. I actually put beads and blades on my leaders, extra flash and vibration. Works for me.

Any large lure that you use for fishing trout will work well for pike fishing...including the trusty Daredevil that pike just can't resist. Leaders are mandatory - unless you don't mind being disappointed when your line is bite off, or just breaks.
