Which game do you play, vexilar, showdown,Marcum? Just starting to get ice down here. I think I am going to look into a showdown unit this year. Be safe. |

I use vexilar FL-8, it is the older model, but still more accurate than I need I wish it would work a little better through the ice to run and gun and find drop offs, walls weed edges etc prior to drilling a hole, seems it would be more efficient, less invasive. |

Here is what I've read researching the same. Try and find people using one of each and see what you think of them. What I have found is people seem to like whichever one they have. They are going to all work, they are all good companies. Look for the features you want. There is nothing wrong with the older ones, they work. For me I went with the showdown, and like it a lot. I have a friend that has a vex fl 18 and he likes it. Like I read some where, and I'm not trying to put one against the other, because I have not used a standard flasher, but you probably don't use record players anymore. You probably have some type of digital music player. So I did take that into consideration, among other things like zoom and Target separation. Hope it helps. |

Used the showdown yesterday for about 7 hours as close as 4 foot to the fl 18 neither one had interference issues. Had 4 inches of ice, crappie, whitebass, bluegill, and channels. They were laying sideways on the bottom. |

I've gone to battle with my trusty Vexilar FL-18 three times so far; and have won all three times. It's early though... |

I use an Humminbird wide vision on my home made pvc 90 degree transducer hook up(just two pvc pipes with an elbow) glued and duck taped to a 1x 4x12 inch board.I use the trolling moter transducer mount on the end of the pvc pipe.I can level it just fine on the ice and can see the ice jigs on the screen along the way to the depth clearly. It works real good. |

Vex and I are getting to be good buddies. We went out together on Monday and yesterday got our limits of big gills and crappies both days. |

Love my Vex, but only one thing bugs me now, I want to wear running shoes, this thing enables you to run and gun so efficiently you could almost sprint from hole to hole and be on fish like flies on crap. I have gone several afternoons where punching 60 holes was nothing and fished all of them in a day, all in effort ( sucessfully I might add) to stay ahead of those pesky schools of crappie and perch. if only they would resort to more structure than chasing bait fish, of course what is the fun in that, would have to get a bucket with a better seat cushion on it then. hehe |

used to use my hummingbird out of my boat with a motorcycle battery. Now I use the vexilar my wife got me for christmas a couple years ago and love it. Got to love when you see the fish attack your bait. also nice to see the bait on the flasher and get it to where the fish are. |
