How bout that weather, Snookman? lol I was in Ft Lauderdale in Jan 2010. it was 5 degrees at my house here in WA and 74 at the hotel in FL. Almost didn't go home and I didn't even get a taste of the bass fishing down there. I have never fished Potholes from the shore, but I know people fish Perch Point, Lind Coulee and right off the dam. I have caught some nice smallies and a few walleye right off the dam from a boat, and close enough that you could reach them from shore. Depending on water and weather, I'd probably park on the dam and fish the rocks for smallies with a mini strike king spinnerbait or a crankbait, rattletrap, stickbait, etc. I've also had pretty good luck with 3/8 oz bass jigs, tube baits and topwater early morning and late evening. There are also some pretty nice yellow perch in the potholes (saw the pictures!). You're on your own for walleye though, they are always a deliciouis accident. When i go looking for them I come up empty. Hope that helps.
Good things come to those who bait... Hoss in Wa

Well i grew up in the potholes but moved away to travel the us no I'm back and couldn't tell you much about the best times or bait to use but if you stop in at the radiator shop in town on broadway then ask for Manuel he could tell you. I have had success at windmill perch point and long lake. Just caught an 11# walleye couple of weeks ago from a boat using a home made rig similar to the double wammy with a wedding ring good luck and post pics

Welcome to Washington Snook.
If you are shore bound I would explore the seep lakes south of Potholes.
Upper and lower goose can be good and Soda is one of my favorites.
Long lake has alot of shore access and holds some nice fish.

Hey has anyone ever fished Coeur D' Alene Lake? My mother, sister and my aunt all live in Spokane and this Summer when I take my '73 Crestliner trihull over there Id like to do some fishing on that lake. Also you reeeeeeally should give trout fishing a good go. Sure hooking into a sweet bass will definitely cheer you up but how can you pass up the dance of a rainbow trout after its been hooked.

Howdy there jblair,
I have been on Coeur D' Alene many times but never wasted time with Trout, you can get them anywere.
If you really want a good dance partner, ask one of those big Pike that are in there.

OOOOooo theres pike in there huh!? Now thats some very good info. Thank you very much Yellow Bear. Recently I started gearing up for some Tiger Muskie over here on Lake Mayfield. I might just have to take some of that gear over to Coeur D' Alene when I visit my mom. Thank You
