Hey Troyfish,
When you see how thin 10lb. braid is...you'll probably want to go a bit bigger...say 30lb. If the cats you're after have any size to them, 10lb. line would be a problem. Even the little ones can bust 10lb. line. Good luck with ol' whiskers!

Mo, Troy and I had a long talk the other night. The reel he is loading doesn't have the drag to stress even 10# Fireline, it is a spinning reel.

Thirty pound Power Pro is the same diameter as 8lb. mono, a great choice for a spinning reel. But all in all...if I was rigging ANY reel for catfish...I would just use mono. I've found it performs as well for much less.

Well I've decided to go with #14 Fireline Crystal (125yd spool), I'm quite confident that I won't be dealing with any cats bigger than 6lbs at MOST.
I don't go fishing, I go catching.

Sounds like a good choice for fish that size Troyfish. If you've never used braid before, test your knots well. Most problems with braid result from improperly tied knots. It is not as forgiving as mono in that aspect.

WHat in the world hapened to the sider wire???? I got what I thought was my same ol goto and spooled t up. it's 50 lb "Stealth" Man I sure hope they still make the regular. This stuff's knot strength is crap. I can tie a standard overhand as a stop with a overhand loop to attach it to a spool and break the knot by pulling to tighten it. did it a few times. I'd thought the knot problems I'd had with 30# was a fluke. BUt it's not...IT's all gotta go!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd welcome the name of any knot to look up hat will Help. it doesn't really like a Rapala knot or a clinch.

Hey turtle,
You might want to try the Nanofil knot. I here lots of guys having trouble with knot strength on Nanofil...and this knot solves it. This sounds a lot like the same trouble they had.

Try using the uni knot. I don't use spider wire, I use power pro and the uni hasn't failed me yet. And remember to wet the line before you cinch it down tight.

Thanks Gents,  I found the reel (pun intended) name for the Version of a clinch is taken by a line Co.  Maybe the berklee...can't recall. but it passes through the eye twice with only 4 wraps before passing it back though the loop.  My Eyes are going a bit so it's always been a good one cause I tie with a brass clinch tool or my pliars if they are in my hand.

I will definitly look into the new knots   ...But I am just amazed that I could break the 50# by hand!!!  20# Old school spiderwire would have that line slicing through my fingers before it would ever bust.

Now I got trust issues wiht this stuff....

Hey turtle,
If you are breaking 50lb. line by hand...something is wrong.  SmileyCentral.com

I use a polymer knot and have never had it fail. Love that spiderwire.
