I am in the market for a new fish finder and want to upgrade to a new one with side scan. With so many to choose from I am looking for a unit in the range of about $400 - $600. I would prefer a color unit if possible. Anyone have any experience with these new units? Any pros or cons? I know very little about them so I'm just trying to get some input before I make a purchase. I would also like to be able to have the transducer mounted on the bow mount trolling motor. Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't remember ever seeing a side scan capable unit for less than about $900, maybe more. The Lowrance HDS series starts at about $600 but the side scan module is an option. I would love to hear differently. Tom

Thanks for the heads up. I have been looking since your last post and it looks like I will be having to go without side scan as an option. Oh well I guess then I can then afford something nice with the new down imaging sonar. It will suit my needs. I guess I didn't realize how expensive these side scan units were. Thanks for your help. Good luck on the water.

Look at the Lowrance HDS units. It is my understanding that side scan can be added after the fact unlike some other brands. Tom
