I need help identifying this old rod I posted the pics on my page under Journal photos. The Rod is Fiberglass about 5'6" the name on it is Major,it has a 14" or so wooden Butt,Stainless steel Reel seat, and a 6" cork fore grip and only 3 eyelets, the base of the fiberglass rod is almost 1/2" in diameter. It doesn't look homemade but I could be wrong.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can't be much help other than to offer that it looks like a 40s/50s trolling rod.

That's what I've heard from a few others,I've also been told it could be a catfish rod.

I don't think they made "catfish" rods back then. Most rods were multi species not including salt water rods.

I think Tom is right. I grew up using several different trolling rods that my Pop had. these were all given to him by my grandfather and probably dated to the 50's. they all had that type of wooden handle and were very stout. we always considered them trolling rods or boat rods. I am not sure of the maker. it may be worth while to see if you can find an antique tackle identification book.

Sam...get ahold of sscasteel. If anyone knows about rods on here it's him for sure. He's been repairing rods and reels for 25 years. I think he's part of your FB friends if I'm not mistaken.
