So I have a Bass Pro gift card for $25. I am mostly a bass fisher (no Ice Fishing - spring to fall only) and vast majority of my tackle is comprised of top water lures other then a few tubes and some rubber frogs. I would like to start fishing for the bass below rather then exclusively top water. sooooo.... if you had $25 burning a hole in your pocket, that had to be spent at Bass Pro Shop, what lures would you recommend for mainly Bass and not top water? Also if you would not mind telling me why you would choose a particular lure, even better. The lake I most frequent has about a max depth of 7 feet but I also fish in a lake that goes as deep as 70 feet but much of it is in the 5 - 15 foot range. Final note is that I just got a boat fall of last year so I am new to the boat fishing - have lots of experiance from the shores. Also I am from NW Indiana if that makes a difference.
Thanks for any info.

1. Booyah 1/2 ounce chartreuse and white spinner baits with 2 willow leaf blades. I catch largemouth, striped, and white bass on these baits regularly. 2. Storm Wild Eye Swim Shad swim baits in shad and baby bass colors, 4" size. These come 3 to a pack. Largemouth love 'em. 3. Booyah 1/2 ounce white buzz bait. Same reason as #1. You'll be able to purchase all the above with the amount on your gift card.. |

I always considered buzz baits a surface lure. I would substitute a couple of Rat-L-Trap style baits for the buzz baits, especially one in a crayfish pattern. Tom |

I'm with ya, Tom, I'd go with some lipless crankbaits just because they're so versatile. You can pop them along the bottom, drag 'em through cover (if you've got heavy enough line) and they get bit all throughout the year. The Bass Pro store brand ones are decent and they're like $2, but be sure to swap out the hooks as most BPS hooks are pretty low quality. |

Yes I guess I should have mentioned I have spinners and buzz baits (I
also consider those mainly top water) but the color combination I will
have to look at. The Wild eyed shad I will add to my list of lures to add to the collection.
Rattle-traps I will need to look at for sure. I have two of the old
rattlin-Fat-raps from the early 90s and have done well with them in the
past. Have to look at the crayfish ones - can't say I recall ever looking at those while walking the isles.
Lipless crank baits are one thing I was looking at and BPS I believe
have a combo pack for not too much or I can go through the bargain bin
(I am like a bug to the light with those dang bins).
Thanks for the suggestions (going to BPS site to start building my wish list as soon as I post) - anyone else?

If youare fish a body of water that recieves a substantial amount of fishing pressure I would reccomend cranks with no rattles. Some examples are 'strike king kvd silent stalkers', 'rapala minnow raps' and 'rapala shad raps'. If you are fishing lakes that dont get a lot of pressure then regular crankbaits would do. I like the rapala DT series a lot. Also bandit lures are great. Plastic worms are also always a great choice! My favorites are Berkley Powerbait. |

OK so here is what I ended up getting based on the posts and what I thought looked good: Storm suspending Wildeye swim shad (4" Bluegill (blue gill looked good and they did not have baby bass) - 3 pack - #11 is bluegill in the link). http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s...mber=44457BPS XPS 5 piece knocker shad kit - Extreme Kit http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s...r=10201577Bill Lewis - Rat-L-Trap Bleeding Craw (#74 in the link). http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=7601 I will thank you all for your input now and hopefully REALLY thank you later when I have some fish pics to post. Thanks guys now if it would just warm up so I could fish. |

I'd check the clearance section first and then go from there... |

I too use the 4" bluegill as well as the 4" swim shad in shad and baby bass colors, just forgot to mention them at the time. The bluegill swim baits work really well when the bass are nesting in the spring. Happy fishing.

Good to know Bass - I was going to go for the baby bass but they were pretty limited with the suspending lures so the Blue gill was the next closest and since gills are pretty prevalent where I fish I figure it was a good choice. Thanks for the update - I think I did pretty good thanks to everyones advice. March/April is not coming fast enough for me.
