Hello, I am a new fisher and i'm just getting the hang of things. I live near Houston and I live in a neighbor hood with alot of woods and ponds behind us. I was wondering what type of fish would I be going for, also any info on how to catch them. Any tips on pretty much anything would be very helpful, like I said i'm new to fishing. Also if anyone knows the best lures and bait for fishing in the Lone Star State that would be awesome.

    Thanks for any info.

pond fishing can be fun. i would start out with worms or shrimp and see what bites. if you are after bass, i would get some shiner minnows or artificial baits. you are close to the saltwater which is a lot of fun to fish.

Thanks, I will try it. I have some Liver Balls do you think those will work. Also I saw on a different website that bass and catfish love Dough Balls like biscut dough you shape into a ball. I will try these and get back to you and tell how they did. Anyways thanks again.

Live Shad and small live Tilapia are great for a wide variety of fish, from Catfish to Bass and many others. Live nightcrawlers should always be a bait you have nearby, they are my go-to bait. Just play around with artificials and see what works. There is no one sure shot bait, it always depends on the water, temperature, clearity, and a bit of luck. Just play around and figure out what works for you. As a beginner, you should not go overboard and spend a lot of money. Wal Mart has a decent selection on a lot of stuff. Cabellas, Academy, and Bass Pro always have a sell bin where you can get lures and other terminal tackkle for cheap.

Good luck and don't hesitate to swing bby here for more advise. And keep us posted on how you're doing.
