It's cold, snowy, AND it's trout stocking time again. I don't brave the cold and ice like I used to, but, I still love my trout fishing. With no closed season here in the state, It's nice to take a comfortable day and hit one of the streams. I'm an optimist, only one more month to those weekly stockings.

I would like to try my hand at trout fishing this year. I have never fished for them or even caught one by accident. I dont have a fly rod and not sure I could even use one as I am in a wheelchair but I do have an assortment of spinners and plan to get a couple baitcasters. What would you suggest using as bait/lures for them with conventional rods? If your near the Jefferson County area I would love some pointers. I want to expand my fishing from pan fish and catfish to other species. Thanks for any advice

Hey Buddy,  You don't need a fly rod. I lightwieght outfit, a jar of shrimp eggs and you're off to the races. Get on the WV DNR website, check our the stocking report updated daily and find a stocking spot close to you. Many of the streams and lakes have nice access sites just for folks who don't get around well. You can find good spots. Good luck to you and wehn you catch your first trout, you'll be hooked.
