Well, as most of you may have noticed, we have a chat room on the site now. And with this new social device, members can keep in touch, share stories, fishing tips and secrets, and get to know there fellow N.A.F.C. members in a more personal way. But with the new chat room also comes new problems. When the chat room was first made available, for several weeks after, myself and the rest of the "regulars" have had a good time talking and hamming it up on a regular basis. But recently, some new, extremely young members have been entering the chat room and creating conflict. Swearing, talking about drugs and generally having a foul mouth and extremely immature attitude is what has been transpiring in the chat room as of late. This has basically ruined the entire experience for me. My interest and confidence in the site is waining, and i am contemplating leaving it entirely. All because of a few bad apples. And one member in particular that shall remain nameless, has been exhibiting very bizarre behavior in the chat and on other member's personal pages. To my fellow members in good standing, have you experienced this as well? And if so, what are your thoughts? |

I must agree with what you are saying Captain Quantum. The chatroom was a nice place to go and talk fishing, and get to know folks. Well not any more. This afternoon I went to the chat room and was appalled by the language in there. I am sorry, but four letter words are not what should be said in the chat room. I have more important things to think and worry about in my life than if some teenager wants to show the world he has found a new word or two. So until the swearing is ended in the chat room, I will not be there any more. It was nice while it lasted, but there always seems to be a rotten apple or two to spoil a good thing. Tight lines all, Salty Dan Orange Texas |

You are so right Salty Dan. The worst part about all this is that the N.A.F.C. hierarchy will do nothing to stop the inappropriate behavior in the chat room. Before you know it, these foul mouthed, disrespectful individuals will infect the rest of the site. The forums. And once their comments make there way there, they are pretty much there forever! It is very true, "A few bad apples spoil the bunch." I have never had a single problem with my fellow members until this last week. With the arrival of a few new users, one who stays in the chat room or lords over it for about 15 hours a day, (must have a lot of free time) and a few more that feel the need to constantly drop the "F bomb" every few minutes. Well, no thank you. Im done. I will not lower myself to their level and argue with them. If things do not change, I will not be using the chat room anymore. I will leave it for the aforementioned hooligans to use so that they may exercise their grade school antics in peace. Are you listening N.A.F.C.!? The integrity and professionalism of your site is crumbling before you! Just thought you would like to know... |

people have been banned from the chat room or bulletin boards in the past. part of the problem now is you can come n under any name you care to make up,, so there is no accountability. in the past you had a screen name and when you logged on, it could only be under that name. |

Excellent point pillman. Thank you for your contribution to the discussion. You managed to make your point without using the F word. Unlike some of our fellow members... |

Let me start by stating that I have never visited the chat room on this site. That said, a wise man (my father, God rest his soul) once said to me that profanity is the art of making ignorance audible. I really doubt that wiser words have ever been spoken in this context. What ever happened to the old saw "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything". I could go on for paragraphs about the foul language, poor spelling and grammar etc not just on this site but in the electronic media in general. It has been my priveledge to communicate with some of the younger members of the club and have never found fault with their language ( You young ones know who you are!) and can find more fault with those who I believe are so-called adults. I had the priveledge to listen to Babe Winkleman and Al Lindner speak today an outdoors show and neither of them uttered a word that could be called objectionable in front of my 4 year old granddaughter. I wish I could find the post from a few years ago by a member who claimed to be a schoolteacher. The grammar and spelling errors in the post gave me fits and I can't think how any of my grade school teachers might feel about calling this person a "teacher" The bottom line is that inapropriate language is not really neccessary to get your point accross and if our so-called teachers spent more time teaching our children how to express themselves instead of worrying about their paychecks and pensions, maybe this wouldn't be a problem. The problem is not all the fault of the schools, parents these days should remember that their first obligation to their children is to be a parent, not a friend! OK, I have gassed enough. Next? |

Thanks Pegsguy. The major point here is that the profanity is being used on this site. I don't care what people say when they're at home or wherever, but people don't come on here to hear that kind of language. They come in to have a pleasant conversation with there fellow members and talk about fishing or just to kid around for a bit. And a side note, this is not about the vilification of young people. That would be stupid. It is only a few youngsters who are ruining it for the rest of us. |

I have not visited the "new chat room" as much as I have wanted too, and I apologize for that. I used to be aa "regular" when we had the old site and we ran into the same roblem that appears to be going on now. This is when it was nice that folks from the NAFC Staff would log in while we were on board and problems like this could be discussed with them so they could be looked nto. I have to agree with the posts here already that if this continue without any ttypwe of action/reaction by NAFC Staff personnel this "problem" will escalate to the point where the room will not be utilized by the members in general. I know we had some of the same problems in the old room, but those of us wheo remember the "old room" and were instrumental in getting it took care of the problem right then and there., Evidently this is not the case any longer. This shouold be looked into by the NAFC STAFF & NOW!!!! |

Thanks Skycop for giving me a heads up on this issue and the thread. I've heard about this from another member as well. There are tools we can use to reprimand or remove members who aren't complying with our Terms of Service. The Fishing Club has a new person on board that's an avid fisherman, knows technology and works exclusively for NAFC. I'll work with him to address this issue. Wes

Wes: Thanks for the quick response on this. I appreciate it and I'm sure the other members who visist the room do also. Maybe the "new guy" can get a handle on this situation to satisfy the "regular" members who use the room as it is intended. |

This disgraceful behavior has reached a new low as of today. A user in the chat room with the username "Rich" has been logging in using MY screen name Captain Quantum and attempting to sabotage me and my name. This is an actual excerpt from the chat room showing "Rich" pretending to be me while talking with a fellow member :Captain Quantum : Wats up anyone on? ii just wanted to say how many issues i have and appologize to anyone i may have offended. 16 : 29Salty Dan : I am on for just a few minutes 16 : 29Captain Quantum : lol im dickin this is actually rich whats up 16 : 29Salty Dan : LOL, yeah, right! You man, how goes it with you? 16 : 30Captain Quantum : pretty good was going to sabatage quantums name for pissing me off, but i dont want to get banned this is a really good site lol 16 : 30Salty Dan : Getting pretty cold herre tonight. It started at about 61 degrees this morning, now about 40 16 : 30Captain Quantum : Been out lately? fishing i mean 16 : 31Salty Dan : Sunday for a while. Fish won though....... Now you can clearly see this kid has severe issues with immaturity and needs an attitude adjustment and in my opinion should be blocked from the entire site. The problem is that you can enter the chat room under any name under the sun. This flaw needs to be corrected N.A.F.C.! I would appreciate a response from Admin Wes or one of the higher ups on here. This behavior must stop. Thank you. |

It's nice that we have a chat room once again., However: When we had the "old room" there was also a tab for a "private room". In order to get into this portion of the Chat Room, you had to be "invited" to join a conversation in the "private chat" by one of the folks in the "regular room". It would be an added benefit for us members who do not want to have on confratation with member in the "room" because of their langauge or what have you. This would be VERY WORTH WHILE to those who use the room to make new friends and just enjoy talking about "whatver comes up". Maybe this can be looked into by the individual named by Wes as joining the staff ( I believe his name is Dennis). . Feed back on this would also be greatly appreciated. I'm sure some of the "old time users" of the old chat room remember this option. |

Skycop,
I agree as I know its not a one sided affair as some have taken it upon themselves to "police the chatroom"
