good morning from a frequent reader but a novice poster. i fish in s.w.pa for anything that will take a hook, be it trout bass panfish etc. using fly, spin and bait.,however, enough about me for the moment. the issue, as i see it, is at the chatroom login, you have the 'freedom' to choose/use any name you wish, you have already chosen your login, why have to tell the chatroom who you are? it should recognize or utilize your info from the login to allow access. end loop. "call me ishmael" (or dr quantum), not....... you should be directed to the chat room and 'not' given the choice, you must use your login name or another name of your choice which is maintained separately but still associated with your nafc account. so your account would be joe doe aka fishmaster. you login to nafc as joe doe or fishmaster and when you enter the chatroom you do so as fishmaster or joe doe, using any other name would not allow entry......... the it guys can set the system up so that you wouldn't even have to enter your name, i might think. might need to crosscheck for duplicate names but a lot of sites already doublecheck for dupes @ signup. as it is allowed now, i could call myself steve and who would know the difference? (i'm sure there would be some intellectual differences, and i won't say as to who to ascribe those diffs to, but the damage could be seen to happen..... yeah, my $.02 but it's an issue that can be dealt with more easily than not by it folks. yo, it guys, we know you can do it!! till then ciao for now blue buddha 'may any path you choose take you where you wish to go'

Pretty disturbing stuff huh? This site is full of a lot of good guys but every now and then you get someone like the person above! I still think there should be some kind of monitor for the chat room and the site in general to stop people from spewing such hatred and vulgarity on this site. Who agrees?

After posting that, I see that all the F words have been blocked. That's great! I posted the message as it appeared in the chat room but it looks like the N.A.F.C. has started to block vulgarities in the forums. That's certainly a welcome change! Now if only that system could be implemented in the chat room where most of the swearing takes place!

Yeah Luke, the club deleted the last message I posted here, a direct quote from the chat room. Too bad they don't make it so one has to display his correct screen name or correct name to get in the chat room, and they actually banned those perverts from the club that use such language or hate mail in the chat room. Sure makes it unenjoyable there. I have mostly stopped going in there any more. Just not worth the stress.

It's like most everything else here in the forums. Not much action being taken. I will admit that Greg and a couple of others are making headway, but not much. I really don't think the club cares much, as long as it keeps getting new members. I mean, why fix it if it ain't broken? The club doesn't seem to care that a LOT of the folks who have been members for a long time don't post any more, that the only posts they make are about problems, or that some of the new members trash the chat room.

Instead of the club spending money on getting a real chat room, or really making this forum the place one would want to go to for ALL the fishing info, it would rather spend money to send Stevie on another exotic fishing trip. Of course, like I have said in the past, why should they listen to life members? They already have our money.

I really don't expect the club to ever improve the forums or chat room. Why should it? It already has 6 bazillion members and getting more every day. Of course lots of them will only be one year enlistments, but there will be enough new memberships to help finance another fishing trip for our illustrious leader.

Am I going to resign my membership? No, of course not. I joined the club for the camaraderie of folks like you, Jesse, pillman, mr bill, zilch and others whom I have come to know and respect. I joined it because I thought it might be a great place to learn and share about fishing. I didn't join it to be the next on the list to field test another trinket, although I must be over due by now since I haven't field tested any thing for years, even though I have sent in my apps a few times.

It is the new idjits who have probably just begun puberty, those who have learned new words and want everyone to know them too, those who have taken it upon themselves to trash the chat room, and to make it a place for me to not want to be any more, and the general lack of concern by the club higher-ups to do any thing about it that are souring me with the club.

Like I said earlier, there are a few, a very precious few, probably can count them all on less than one hand, workers at the club who really seem to care about getting the club up to par with ALL the other websites on the net that really do work well and don't seem to have a problem in doing so. To you guys, I thank you. Too bad that the folks who really make the decisions for the club keep your hands tied.

A thought for those who have been a problem in the chat room:

Is it NOT a simple task to check a persons IP number and block them from the chat?

I gave them the answer: it is the same chat room software that flyanglersonline uses and it"s free but it is up to them to utilize it.
But also try to remember that the computer opened up a whole new platform for folks to pick on other folks . In fact you dont have to look to much farther then the forums to discover that.

New change, WHAT change? Look at the foul posting today and as I see it there is nothing being done to check and block the IP number of the cause.

Here's the deal fellas (and this comes from my boss) -- the Chat function is a third-party add-on working within the Fishing Club site, but we do not have access to the "control panel," so to speak, to block people, ban people, require logging in with one's NAFC username and password. So, at this point, it's all or nothing, unfortunately. We can shut down the chat, or we can keep the imperfect chat up and running. I wish I had better news to report back to you, but that's where we stand as of now.

I will, in the next meeting, find out if would be possible to, in the near future, to shut down this Chat app and switch over to a different one that we can regulate better.
