Here's two pics of two big fish I caught last week in Hayward. The first was 50-1/4: long and weighed 43#. The second fish came within 20 mins. of the same time , one day later, on a different lake. It weighed 34# (tying my previous record) as 48" long. Both fish took a worn, black wooden 10" long suick lure. The big fish followed the bait in and I put the rod tip in and started a figure eight at boat side with 6' of line left out. Three times around the bow of the boat and back, she flared her gills and ate the entire bait at my feet. I set the hook and opened the bail to see the fish come completely out of the water in front of us like a tarpon. As the fish came down, I cocked the reel and fought the fish to the net-work of my friend Steve Jones. The right ten minutes of fishing in the right spot at the right time. At 9:58 am I told Steve to get ready, it was going to happen. Four minutes later at 10:02 the fish bit. The next day, at 10:20am, I again told Steve I was feeling it and three minutes later, with only 100yards. of selected shoreline to fish, the 48" took the bait. I was feeling abit "fishy" this past weekend. My two longest and the heaviest fish in twenty years of practice in 24 hours. Last moon phase of October, two days before and two days after....don't be having breakfast at 10:00am!! Renee' and I have done our work, sorry she wasn't there to enjoy our efforts paying off this time. (check out the pics on my page) |
