Welcome to the club Skeeter. After you have been around a while you will find that posting in the correct section will get you quicker and better answers. (there is a walleye section) That said, you will find that most of the guys that fish Erie use something around 12-14 lb line. The type of line seems to be a matter of personal preference. I use braid or fused line for almost all of my  trolling applications. One of my favorites is Cabela's metered braid. It changes color every 10 yds like lead core but without the lead. There are times that it is good to know how much line you are letting out. Tom

Thanks Tom for the great reply! I especially appreciate your willingness to help out fellow members even though you are having frustrations with the website speed, etc. I sent a report first thing this morning to the IT Guys containing the feedback you and others provided since last Friday about site speed and glitches, etc. Skeeter: I'm going to post your query over on NAFC's facebook page as well. any replies we get, I will cross-post here. -- Web Guy Greg

Corey Smith provided this reply over on the NAFC facebook page:

"I have always had good luck with 8 lb stren clear blue. I've been going over to Erie since I was a kid and it has not let me down yet!!!! This is even what I use in the river on my rods for the spring run."

Thanks to Corey! -- Regards, Web Guy Greg

I normally use 10 Berkely Vanish, invisible in the clear water, strong and sensitive enough to feel your lure through the in-line planer board.

Thank you, all of you, that gave me an answer to my question. Yes, I had been to the Walleye section and read alot about lures and techniques, but they left out the parts about what lines they used and why. I have been a member of the NAFC since 1995 and a Life Member since 2002. Don't post much since I am usually out fishing when everyone else is tapping on their keyboards. I have an upcoming Walleye Charter planned on Lake Erie with PlayinHooky Charter in June and just wanted to get some kind of idea what size I use. Thankyou again.
