I'm not sure what heading to post this under, but I'm wondering about polarized sunglasses.  Do they work as well as they say?  Do the more expensive brands work better than the cheaper models?  I bought a pair of $20 polarized shades a few years ago, and I wasn't impressed.  Anyone have a different opinion?

I got a pair of Berkley polarized sunglasses from Walmart for like $10 and they've served me great for now 3 seasons. I've never believed in paying the most and always getting the best. Most times the best isn't the highest price, but most people think this is the case with shades. I and my $10 Berkley glasses disagree, but thats just me.

I have a pair from BPS they also have bifocals in them.
They are not there brand but a better pair I love them.
They cost me about $65 bucks but I drive with them also, they do make a difference And yes you can see fish on a bright glare day.
Here in Fla. you need them.

I could never bring myself to spend more that about $30 for a pair of sunglasses likely to end up in the water. I have had good results with pairs in the $20 range and seen some $80 glasses I wouldn't touch. I have a pair of Bill Dance floating glasses from BPS ($20) that are nice but don't fit me real well and a couple other pairs that don't float but seem to fit better. One thing to remember is that you really need a few pairs in different colors for the various conditions we all experience on the water. Tom

Different colors for differents conditions? How so? What colors for what sort of conditions?

I use a lighter lens like amber for days when it might be overcast but there is still some glare off the water, darker shades as the brightness increases. You would be suprised how much of a difference the polarized lenses make even on an overcast day. Tom

Not only do polarized sunglasses work well for spotting fish, they also protect your eyes from the sun's glare off of the water. Obviously, it is not good for your eyes to stare at the sun. Likewise, it is not good for your eyes to stare at the sun's reflection off of the water! And uses for different colored lenses also pertain to the water's color and depth, not just the atmospheric conditions.

Polarized sunglasses are a MUST. I spent $14.00 on a pair from BPS and they work just as good as any expensive brand.

I agree. Just because something is expensive doesn't mean it is of considerable quality. They only jack up the prices because they know that people will pay for the name brand.

I have Cocoons and love them. They are @ $40 and come in 4 sizes to wear alone or fit over prescription glasses.

They definitely help to cut down glare. I know that different colors are supposed to help on different days but lets be realistic. I'm not a professional fisherman and I'm not going to change sunglasses when the sun goes behind a cloud. I have a pair of flying fisherman (its a brand) that I got from a local fishing shop. They work very well.

I'm with skewl. Go to walmart and buy the berkley polorized fishing glasses. They are light weight, fit my face and are inexpensive. I have a pair in my truck, a pair in my boat and a backup pair in my tackle bag because I'm clumsy and break or lose things, but for $10, I can afford a few pair. I paid some money for a nice pair of glasses once. Not sure that they were any better than the cheap ones, but all it took was one slip on the boat ramp and somehow landed square on top of them.

Well I’m sure that a lot of people will disagree with my opinion. I use to think that $10 to $20 was good enough then I tried someone Ray Ban’s and I haven’t looked back. I’m not sure what is expensive but I know mine are and they have changed some minds about polarized glasses and the price just by saying try these. I think between $10 and $75 there is little or no difference and some of the much higher priced are not worth the money. But I love my ten year old Ray Ban glasses ($160) that’s $16 bucks a year and counting not bad. I saw a friend’s two year old Oakley’s polarized film peel off for how much, more than mine! If you are going to abuse them don’t spend the money. But if you are thinking about it take a ten or twenty dollar pair and an good pair normally over $100 look into the glare off a car window or mirror if you can’t see the difference don’t spend the money. If you can then you have to decide if they are worth it. Tony

I got a good pair from Dicks Sporting Goods.  They're really helpful for when I sight fish from Bluegill and bedding bass.

Hey I got a pair as a test product from the club a couple of hears ago. they are the type that you clip onto your baseball cap. they worked pretty good except that I don't wear a ball cap to often. I myself would stick with a cheaper pair just because i cannot see spending 50 or 100 bucks on something I will probably either sit on or loose. I have never owned an expensive pair so i cannot compair quality.

another option for those of us who wear or need to wear prescription glaSSES sears runs a buy 1 pair get a second pair free promotion i got my second pair as sunglasses and they are polarized also i used to use the ones vthat slip on over ur regular glasses but they are bulky uncomfortable and ugly
