My neighbor would like to know what it is worth and how old it is? He is looking to sell it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

New ones are black, old ones red. New they go for @ $59. Great flathead cat reels. A real winch. You could dredge up a Buick with them! I love mine.

Yep, that's the older red model. I had one of those and was getting new line installed on it at a local tackle shop when the guy there dropped it and the levelwind went scooting across the floor. They sent it to Penn who returned a brand new one to me rather than fixing the old one. Good deal for me as I bought the old one at a yard sale for $20. Great customer service from Penn!
My guess is that cleaned up and greased and oiled. it would be worth @ $15-$20.
I 'd clean it up, put a heavy rod under it, and go catfishing!

Actually reds were 2nd gen aka higher gear ratio. Black was the original, lower gear ratio and only made a year or so. Other then that they are good. I got one with a bronze spool sitting in storage.
