I just recently bought 1 like a month ago. Figure just to give it a shot. Bought it at cabelas as a set (fly rod and reel) for around $80. Comes with backing, line and leader.

I am fairly new to fly fishing and am in the market right now for upgrading my fly rod amd have found it helpful to read reviews at Cabelas and BPS etc to see what ratings specific models get and to see if there are any issues.

It really depends on what type of waters you will be fishing. For the small trout streams I fish, my inexpensive combo from Cabela's works just fine.

I recommend that beginners get an inexpensive setup just so they don't feel like they have to put in too much money right from the get go. I would also recommend that you take lessons from someone to learn how to cast and how to properly present the flies to the fish. Good luck to you let us know how it goes.
