Hey everybody, I'll be moving back to SD sometime in the next couple months, probably to somewhere near Rapid City and I just thought I'd see if there was any activity on the forums from folks in SD.  I'd love to find a fishing buddy that could help show me some new waters.

    Tight lines

Not a lot of water in the area of Rapid City

I know of a couple of folks that fly fish for trout in the Black Hills...check it out on this website...

    http://www.flyfishsd.com/hillsfishing.htm

That said...Lake Oahe is only about 175 miles away...and it is HUGE...and not crowded.

    (Google map of distance)

Only reasons I'm chiming in on your post is because I like to TRY to help folks out with info...and I have a socially adopted sister from Pierre...who's family runs a marina in Pierre. She's good people...and from what I've heard...the marina is well run.

Good luck with your move...and your fishing adventures once you get there

Thanks for the post. I did my research and found some water. I use to live on the opposite side of SD and have fished Oahe and the river several times, its always a blast.

Hope your 'sister' is doing alright, I've heard that they've had some pretty bad flooding in the Pierre area.

You're welcome...and thanks for the kind words about my sis. She's in California...but has been contemplating leaving as I did back in 2008. She's sent me a bunch of pics of the flooding out that way though

Happy to hear you've found some spots...and that your research paid off

You'd be surprised at the # of folks that don't even know how to do that

I've wanted to fish both Oahe and Devil's Lake for years...but it's just never been in the budget

If it wasn't for my mom being in the local nursing home...I'd probably be out there looking for a job

Best of luck to you while you're out there

Some buddies and I camped out at Sheridan Lake during the bike rally this year. Like always, we packed fishing gear on our motorcycles and between the bikes, Sturgis attractions and the fishing we hated to break camp and ride back to Kansas. We visit the Black Hills every other year for about five days but we are planing to stay 10 days next year to really get in some serious fishing time. The burn ban was a bit of a drag but when we saw the charred landscape it's easy to understand the need for fire control. I packed a propane stove so we did get in some hot meals.

JCT, how have you been since the Gwinn meet? seems like a long time ago, don't it? How's your son doing?
