I've been seeing more and more flies that come in a standard version and an indicator version, and I was wondering what advantages are there to an indicator fly besides better visibility? It seems like it would change the silhouette of the fly at least some. Has anyone ever caught or not caught fish on a standard fly and then had the opposite result with an indicator fly?

not necessarily parachute flys make good indicator as the post can be any color so you can see it better if you can see it better then you can fish it better.  Present it in a more natural way  with out drag setting in .

The Bivisible flies might be in this catagory as the wrap of white hackle up front makes it easier to see. If you can't see it, much harder to know when a fish has tsken the fly. I need to get the long rods out and exercise them.

another good example is a chernobyl ant. tie on a piece of brightly colored foam on top but the fly looks the same from below.
