I sincerely hate dealing with or discussing politics, but there are times I hear of political decisions I feel other folks may need (or want) to know about.
An example of this is an email I received this morning from keepamericfishing.org If you go to this site and type in H.R.1 into the search box you will be made aware of proposed Congressional budget cuts that will most likely take a bite out of recreational fishing funding that many anglers will find unacceptable.
Where is the best place on this site to post this type of information?

There is no room on this site for politics. I think I speak for the majority when I say that we like to keep it "pure." |

Unfortunately, what happens in the political arena does affect club members as outdoor folk. While I abhor politics in general, some issues do directly affect our hobbies and in some cases, income. Not only are oudoors issues and the atatched politics worth discussing, if we don't make ourselves heard our rights and privleges are sure to be eroded one by one. The opposition is organised (think PETA isn't a political organisation?) and we need to be also. It needs to start somewhere! Tom |

Hi Captain Quantum, I directed my question to one of the Club Editors, which is why I posted in the "Ask the Editors" archive. Your response was quite a disappointment though, as the Bill I was informing the Club about will affect a very large group of recreational fisherman. Much like the proposed lead ban, we need to keep an eye on everything that can potentially have a negative affect on sportfishing. If we fail to do this, our children and grandchildren will not have nearly the same opportunities you and I enjoy in our lifetime. If we allow this to happen, you and I have failed all future generations. Concerning your statement "...we like to keep it pure " I hope you didn't mean pure BS - because failing to take action today and complaining about what is taken away tomorrow just won't cut it with me. On December 14th 2010, you wrote the following words in the Miscellaneous Archive under the topic titled "New changes to the NAFC" : "If you don't like what is posted here, then you don't have to read it." Pretty harsh statement, wasn't it? If the shoe fits, eat it. Bill

Your question was not politics it was protecting fishing rights. Politics (in my opinion) would be trying to promote a candidate or pushing some party. I think posting this was fine but not sure where it should go "officially".
I hope people stand up for our rights and as a fishing club this should be one forum to get the word out so we can make our voices heard.

I meant discussing politics in the general sense. Even the original poster said in the first sentence: "I sincerely hate dealing with or discussing politics." But whatever. Yes, some liberals think fishing is barbaric and cruel and want to take away our ability to fish for recreation. I say, you can pry my rod from my cold dead hand! |

Considering politicians make laws we should care, even the dnr proposes laws and stuff that the public can voice an opinion on . Those laws can effect all of us especially when it comes to environmental issues. If we don't care who will?

The bottom line is that if we are not politically active, most likely we will not be actively fishing before long! Tom |

I recently received an email from Keep America Fishing asking me to support to measures(one House, one Senate) currently pending in Congress. The mailing did not bother to describe the contents of these bills other than that they were written to "control invasive asian carp" or words to that effect. Considering that these bills have been introduced by representatives from Michigan, I have to assume that it's the same old song from Michigan-Close the locks!. I have nothing against the fine people of Michigan but their political leadership is stuck on this one solution to the problem which would do immediate and permanent damage to the economies of both Illinois and Indiana that would make the possible damage to the sport fishing industry seem small. How about some workable ideas to mitigate the problem instead of beating the same dead horse! Tom |
