Hello everyone;
Just added a few photos of a 5 foot alligator gar one of my fishing friends caught in Orange Texas on Mar 23, 2011. The photos are in my album on my profile page.
He caught it using a 6 - 7 inch finger mullet as bait.
Enjoy!

Wow! That's a big one! I bet that fish is about the same age as those old dudes around it! |

Hey Luke; I imagine the fish is about 25 - 30 years old from
what I read about them. Still a big fish!
They put up one heck of a
fight! Took about 20 minutes or more for the guy to land this one.
Those things can live for hours out of the water. I saw a couple long
nose gar a few years ago that someone had thrown on the shore. They had
been there for an hour or more before I got there. I stayed and fished
for several hours, and before I went home, the fish had worked their way
back into the water...well at least close enough that I decided I
would help them a bit. I mean they were right at the water's edge. They
had moved about 15 feet to get there. Tight lines, and have a great day all! Salty Dan Orange Texas |

Whoa, so I guess that gar was my age!? And that kind of sounds like squawfish Dan. I caught one once and hit it in the head with a rock and threw it way up on shore. An hour later when I was leaving that spot, the fish had flopped its way all the way back down to the water's edge. About 15 feet. Tough fish! Of course it was pretty much dead and couldn't swim away, but still! |

Thanks for sharing Salty. I wonder if its nose would make a good "kill'em stick" for the squawfish king? He seems to catch a lot of trash fish. |

The squawfish king is the guy who actually makes money on the bounties that are paid in some areas. |
