Illinois spring trout opens on Sat. I am going to wait out the crowds this weekend and maybe get out next week sometime. I have never been particularly successful with Il trout. Tom

The Illinois "season" is a bit misleading. To the best of my knowledge there are no native or wild trout in Il, just the put and take sort. DNR stocks select lakes with just harvestable size trout in the spring and fall. These lakes are closed to fishing for approximately two weeks and then opened to fishing. The few trout not harvested usually do not survive long. Tom

Interesting Tom. are there any lake Michigan tribs nearby that get runs of browns? we have a good trout stocking program here in utah but are also lucky to have some good self sustaining populations plus native populations of Cutthroat.

In Pa only 18 counties opened today and the rest open the 16. Of course I live in one of the counties that open on the 16. Maybe I'll fish tommorow.

Here is a picture taken opening day at one of my local lakes. Sorry about the size. Tom

I went out on opening day for the first time last year to a stocked creek. Before this I always went fishing on my own or with a friend but wherever I went fishing there was almost no one else fishing and if there were they weren't four feet away from me. On opening day I saw so many people's lines getting tangled and it really wasn't even fun fishing. I know my grandfather did this kind of fishing his whole life but it isn't for me.

Brian: Missed your post earlier, sorry. There are some tribs that have steelhead/brown runs but none in Illinois. The closest to me is on the north side of Kenosha, Wi. The browns also come in to Kenosha harbor as do the salmon when they make their false spawning run in fall.I may chase kings that are staging pre-spawn but that's about it. Tom
