    Hey guys,

I know I've asked this before but the answer I've been getting wasn't good enough for me to make my decision.  Since the last time I post a question about this I was planning to order my solar combo (fishfinder/gps) but unfortunately they ran out in stock and has it on backorder.  Either they are out of stock or they are way over priced.  Since that's the case I'm in need of another one.  Please give me some item numbers with brand or just a specific they of brand would be fine. price range is from 0-$800.  I know but free is also good.  Thanks ahead-Nang

ok now im down to my choices it will be one or the other

    http://www.basspro.com/Humminbird-7...escription
    or
    http://www.basspro.com/Lowrance-HDS5-Fishfinder/GPS-Chartplotter/product/103484/-1549188

they are both the same price on the one i want, but the HB got a structure scan built in and the Lowrance have to have another unit placed in like the LSS-1.

Better check again- my info shows both units with the same imaging capabilities. If your data is correct the 'Bird is way more capable than the Lowrance. The biggest complaint I have heard about the Humminbird units is the price and availability of mapping software. This may not sound like a big deal now but it will become an issue at some point.Another plus for Lowrance is that the structure and side scan can be "added on" later, whereas with Humminbird a new unit is needed. The least expensive 'Bird unit I can find with structure scan is over $1000. i have heard from several people that lowrance is the way to go several years back hb was either sold or had a major overhaul (iwas told which one it was but cant remember which one it was exactly but bottom line is the product used to be the best on the market but is now in last trailing lowrance and even eagle which are the low end brand of lowrance. while i was looking to replace my old unit i spoke with numerous people at several different stores and they all said the same thing avoid hb its not worth the money you pay for what u get it is an inferior product hope this helps

My problem with Hb is the map software. Seems that maps for Humminbird are very limited and a bit pricier than the ones available for Lowrance. Also, the same map chip that I use in my sonar works in my handheld GPS. Tom

I am sure you will like the Elite. I think it suits what you will be doing with it without overwhelming you with information. You have to start somewhere and overcomplicating things can make for a poor outcome and a lot of frustration. Be sure and read the manual or watch the DVD (if you purchased one) and don't forget about the simulator program available free from the Lowrance web site. While there, download the reader program which allows you to store and watch recorded logs from your unit on a home computer. Tom

So what is the latest? Last I heard you were having a problem and I was wondering if you got squared away. Tom
