Today was the first time I went Musky fishing this year. It was sunny and 57 degrees in Western Illinois. Water temp was 50 degrees and the water clarity was clear. I had all my gear set-up and ready to go. The only thing I forgot was my camera.

Wouldn't you know it, I ended up catching the biggest Musky of my life, 51.5" long and 24" girth. Luckly, I had my el-cheapo cell phone camera. I battled the fish for almost 12 minutes and didn't want to keep him/her out of the water for too long. I only took one photograph with my phone and released the fish without harming it.

I guess I'll have a second chance at him/her in a few days. I will NEVER forget to bring the camera next time.

Here's the photo of the monster. Too bad it's not the best quality.

Second Musky of 2011. It's a lot smaller than the first, only 24 inches. Caught it while crappie fishing.

Nice fish.  Haven't caught a muskie, myself, this year, or at all, for that matter.  What were you using?

Thanks for the compliments. Actually, the first musky I caught, I was bass fishing, using a 1/2 ounce rat-l-trap. The second musky, I caught while crappie fishing, using a 1/16 ouce tube jig tipped w/ a crappie nibbler.

The smaller musky do have pretty cool colors. I'm pretty sure it's not a Tiger Musky tho. They have more of a barred type of markings, rather than being spotty.

Had a great time on my yearly Canadian muskie fishing trip two weeks ago. My brother and I caught over 20 muskies in 6 days. Attached are a few of big ones we caught. Matt
