I cant believe no one is talking about the maumee river walley run that is heating up right now (at least from the reports and pictures i have seen)  I used to live in the toledo area when i was going to college at UT.  I am making a trip to blue grass island this week with an old college buddy, i am soo excited.  if you guys want more info on the run check out maumee tackle's website they have good infromation on their site and it is the place that i go to get tackle before heading out on the river.  they can be found at www.maumeetackle.net  anyone been out there lately?, what was working good, colors, jig size?  let everyone know

I live in Toledo, the bite has been a little slow.
A cold spell kinda turned off the fish. It's warming up
though, and after the rain we're getting this week, we
should see some good fishing. I myself have come back
empty handed each time out. I think I'm doing something
wrong. It's only my second year fishing the walleye run
and it's a completely different experience for me.

Everyone uses floating jigheads with a power bait. Color doesn't seem to make much of a difference as long as it's bright. Use a 2 to 5 foot leader attached to a trolling weight, maumee tackle has them at the counter. Weight is something you will have to experiment with, so grab multiple sizes. Oh yeah, and get ready to lose some tackle. Most guys have pre tied leaders wrapped around a tackle buddy or something similar.

i have been up there twice this year, so far so good.2 the first time and 3 last time, one @25" not bad, yes on the floating jigs, twister tails any bright color(as the water visabilaty is slim) and as said above play with weight, this depends on the water current and yes have some pre rigs made up,if you dont you will burn up alot of your fishing time trust me lol, oh and water needs to be 50deg and up if not dont waste your time

Must be nice to catch fish. I've been out a handful of times this year, and have caught nothing. I'm getting rather frustrated to be honest.
Not sure what it is. Other than the fact that the weather has not cooperated at all this year. It's been rather cold for this time of year. Normally the
Walleye run is pretty much over, but because of the colder weather it will probably go till the middle of May. We usually have water temps near the sixties
by now. However, the water really hasn't been much above 50 degrees, it's been mostly mid 40's. For a while I figured I was't catching fish because
of the colder conditions, but now I'm not to sure. I figure even in less than perfect conditions, after 6 or more times out, I should have come home with something.
If it's my presentation I'll be very surprised, because I slammed them last year with the same techniques. Not to mention, I'm just doing what every other person on the river is doing. I cast out, let it hit bottom and drift a bit, then reel in slowly, trying not to snag the guy next to you.
I'm not losing fish either, I don't think I've even got a hit this year. Nor have I even snagged a fish, which is very common due to the dense population of walleye.
If anyone has tips for me please share them with me. My wife wants a walleye dinner.

well my buddy and I both got 2 each when we went up about 2 weeks ago, but the bite was slow, but i have been checking out the report daily and it seems to have really picked up, you guys have the presentation right, floating jig, and yes bring about a dozen pre rigged up cuz u will loose em. i want to try and get up there once more before the run stops, but it is a 3.5 hr drive for me now.
