Saturday Morning April 9th was a wonderful morning to take my two young daughters out on the Red River with me. Being I only get my daughters every other weekend spending time with them is upmost importance and enjoying time with them is awesome. We got up early and we to town to get a few things and they asked "Lets go Fishing". So we did, we jumped in the boat and headed to go catch some bream. I had set out a few trotlines a few days before and decide to go ahead and rebait them while we would fish. When I pulled up to the first line and grabbed it I knew something was on it big because it was heavy and on the bottom. As I started working threw the hooks I felt the "Pull" and I told them "Girls get ready we have a big one"... The excitement of this big fish was amazing and I knew they would love to see what it was.. Once I got close to the fish I told them to come to the front of the boat and see..When its head came out of the water my youngest daughter screamed"Its a Shark" I had to laugh at the tell her it wasn't..I grab the hugh fish and rolled it in the boat and they were amazed and excited...They couldn't believe the size of this fish. It was a about an hour before we got back to the bank to be able to wiegh it and clean it.. The fish weighed 70lbs.. That evening the girls were asking"Daddy lets go fish I want another big fish"" We went but only caught some smaller ones but it was still an enjoyment to see them enjoy the water.

What a great story! It is good to hear about youngsters getting involved with our sport. I am going to assume that the Red River you refer to is the one in the Al/La area. Members should remember that there are numerous rivers with the same name in the US and without the reference to "bream" I might have thought you were talking about the Mn/ND border! Tom

I'm sorry about not specifing witch Red River and the River I am refering of runs in Louisina where I live. The River starts in the south La and heads through Shreveport La and up towards Texas. This past weekend I caught plenty of catfish.. I fileted all the fish and had close to 50lbs of filets... Thats alot of catfish.. "I recomend to any one wanting to catch catfish to use small bream they work the best...
