I’ve noticed a problem with my rods and reels this spring that I never noticed before, and I don’t recall ever hearing anyone else mention it before either. I’ve got an assortment of Shakespeare graphite rods and spinning reels, and I’ve noticed that when I reel in or sometimes even after a cast I get a static build up and a shock when I touch the bale. Anyone else ever have a problem like that? |

Maybe something to do with the graphite construction of the reels? I don't know, all my reels are aluminum construction.

I have had a static problem when fishing on a floating rotomolded dock but never from a rod or reel. Tom |

Hi all. I have found 2 ways to stop getting shocked. 1. change your line. Or 2. have your wife save the used fab-softner sheets. I will take the sheet and rub the rod down. Then put it on the line. You do not rub the line just put the sheet on it. It will pull the static out of your rod & line. I get this in the spring and know when to save the sheets. Hi all. One day after getting shocked alot. Saw an ad on TV to stop static in the wash. Next day took a sheet with me fishing. When I got shcked . I rubbed the rod and line. No more static. This will work for awhile then do it again if you get more build up.

Have you tried opening your reel up and oiling it down? It could be that there is no lubrication and the metal gears are rubbing and causing static. |
