My choice is definitely Sufix Seige, love the stuff, and I've tried quite a few different kinds of line. However, one thing that greatly increses my performance of any line is the Real Magic spray, that stuff is great, always longer casts and no backlashes. |

I use a bunch of different lines for their individual benefits. Overall I guess I like Silverthread Excalibur most. |

Half my reels are spooled with Trilene XL, bait cast and spinning. My channel cat reel is spooled with Trilene XT. My flathead cat reel is spooled with Offshore Angler braided Dacron. My sunfish fly reel is spooled with Scientific Anglers Lefty Kreh Signature Series line with Cabela's braided nylon backing. My bass fly reel is spooled with World Wide Anglers Saltwater line with Cabela's braided nylon backing.

SilverThread slipperybob? Wow! Be honest, I'm surprised to hear somebody name SilverThread. I have two spools of it, (wife bought it as a present off lurenet.com and didn't know what she was getting or what I liked) and I never cared for it. What I got I think is inflexible and difficult to tie & hold knots, never loaded it on to any reals. I have #8 & #12 and have never used it except for the occasional leader. Maybe I got a bad batch or something? I'm with bass or bass?, I use Trilene XL almost exclusive in different strengths on most all my outfits on spinning, baitcaster, and my son's three spincast reels. I do have Stren mono in #14 loaded on my high speed baitcaster and have really fallen in love with it, and might go more with more Stren next time. It has been really good to me with almost no backlash. Then just this winter loaded that new Berkley Pro Braid in #12 on my spin catfish rig. Did anybody watch the NAFC show yesterday (it was a re-run) when Steve did the Pro Pointer on the Trilene Sensations or hi-vis? Has anybody ever tried those hi-vis type lines in any formulation, mono, flouro, or braid? I fish in mostly very murky water (+/- 6" or less) so hi-vis lines shouldn't be as big a issue for me, and it's more important for me to see the line and the bite then not spooking the fish. Just curious if they were being used very much? Best wishes and have a Happy and Blessed Easter everybody. |

I have switched from 12lb red cajun to Trilene Big Game clear mono 12lb for my Pflueger President 6735, older Shakespear Easy Cast and Mitchell Advocate II reels. I appear to be catch way more fish now. I recently received Trilene XL Smooth Cast Smoke Green that I cant wait to try out tho. I have tried 8lb suffix siege out on my Mitchell Advocate II but it didnt perform as well as the 12lb Big Game line, oddly its a 8lb reel?? Expect it could have been as error on my part, but it seemed to wad up way to easy for my taste. I have been eye-ing that Reel Magic spray mentioned above, but havent yet tried it out. This is something I may try soon. From my experience (which may not be nearly as much as others here) most mono line is about the same and you dont have to spend tons of $$ to get decent line. From my testing I can grab one of my 5/0 worm or EWG Bass hooks, tie a standard double clinch polymer knot and hook the hook on the end of a desk and pull the line on the other end 3ft away. The hook will bend before the line breaks. I use good Eagle Claw or Viscious hooks. IMHO major factors when choosing line should be color and size. When in doubt just buy a small spool try test and see how it works for you. |

Hey armstrong ,since you like Stren, they have a hi-vis yellow that I used a few years ago for night time cat fishing. Give that a try.

Best wishes and have a Happy and Blessed Easter everybody. Yep, I'm being honest about it. Silverthread over any of the Trilene or Stren. I gave up on Stren Original and all Trilene for Silverthread Excalibur or various other lines. You would be the first person I've ever heard to give a bad review on it. |

Just one observation, this has been a very fun and informative topic that I've really enjoyed. With all the options that everybody has listed; Triline, Spiderwire, Sufix, SilverThread. I was just watching a fishing show that was sponsored by Vicious and remembered nobody has mentioned that particular line brand within this discussion..... interesting. |

For my baitcaster I use Zebco braid. Great line, and you will not find any other braided line cheaper. You can pull out a sunken jon boat before this line snaps. It's about $8 at walmart. |

I've only heard of mixed reviews about Vicious in the past, but like all things ifassuming that fishermen lies, then who knows. I've also used many types of lines, recommended or raved by some only to become very dissappointed. That's really another topic. LOL's. It could be that Vicious may have recently reformulated their lines, within the last few years or so. I'm hearing more positive feedback on it. Maybe something to give a try, since it does appear to have less of a price tag on it. I just don't like the name Vicious, if anythingelse. That's something personal with Vanish and I'd hate to have a vicious time with a line name like Vicious. |

If you are like me and only have a few setups and are looking for a solid multi purpose line, I would strongly suggest Stren Duratuf if you can find it. I bought it at a fishing show and havent found it in any stores or websites since. It has stretch, but not too much. It casts well. It also doesn't get nicked and roughed up very easily. |

When I'm fishing jigs I'll use trilene 100% depending on how gnarly the structure is, if its pretty bad I'll goto 50 lbs powerpro.
As for soft plastics/spinnerbaits/crankbaits I prefer the trilene still, most topwater I'll use the trilene XL mono and if I'm throwing frogs its 65 lbs power pro, considering you can almost walk on the lillypads they're that thick.
Some call it overkill I call it effective. |

There's a difference between finesse fishing and power fishing. Sometimes power fishing is what it takes to catch fish, eventhough ,most of the time finesse will do just fine. Each person merely has to choose their tools for the tasks at hand. I used to use 20# mono for bass fishing in weeds but now go with braid lines of at least 50#. Finessing for bass, well 4# mono will do. Just have to remind myself not to horse the fish and hope they don't jump too hard. |
