Give either Trilene XL or Sensation a try. Maybe even Stren Original. I like to use Silverthread Excalibur but it's kind of wiry too, but it's a little softer than Trilene XT. |

Try P-Line Floroclear or CX premium. I've tried several versions of Stren and Berkley line including XL and line from many other manufacturers such as Maxima, Triple Fish, Silver Thread, Rapala and Diamond to name a few and Floroclear performs as good or better as any line I've used and P-Line CX premium is almost as good but doesn't seem as limp in the heavier line sizes. Berkley XL does cast well but I experienced horrible line twist problems with it and the abrasion resistance was not very good and XT is rather stiff. A close second to P-Line is Triple Fish line and I also used Maxima Ultragreen on some of my spinning reels for several years and it has great abrasion resistance and knot strength but is stiffer than Floroclear or CX although I never had much trouble with memory or twist. If you try Floroclear or CX premium use a palomar knot because the slick coating they use will allow some knots to slip. I have had no problems using the palomar knot.

I usually use 6-8 lb Trilene Original on all my Diawa rod and reel combos. It's worked great for me. |

I use Trilene XL on most of my reels, spinning and bait cast.

I would advise anyone thinking about Trilene Sensation in the hi-vis colors to think twice. I tried some clear Sensation in 8#test and it was fine, a fellow member tried some of the hi-vis orange 6# in a NAFC field test and was happy, so I bought some 10# orange for a cat/carp rod. What a disaster! The first spool was very 'springy' with a lot of memory so I wrote Berkely and they suggested I return it for a replacement. The replacement spool is just as bad or worse. It won't stay on the spool of my spinning reel. Worse than XT by far. Real Magic seems to help some, but I feel that if I buy a premium line, I shouldn't need a conditioner. |

When I go to the water I look forward to the peace and quiet. Somehow the presence of the Creator seems to fall on me and bring a calmness I miss out in the world. The only thing that seems to interrupt that is fishing line that doesn't work and I don't hesitate to try out the best but it seems to be a never ending story. About a year ago I started using a Cajun Red Line under the advertisement that it disappeared in the water. So far so good! I liked it so well on my ultra light reels that I have tried it with higher pound rating and it still continues to satisfy my needs. The price is in line with most other lines. If you are having trouble with line on spinning reels you might want to check and see if you spooled properly. If not that can be a real problem! Good luck and good fishing. Uncle Tom |

| I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country. |
