    Hey Guys,
Sorry about possible repeated questions but I am a lowly midwest boy looking to spend some time in the early am during our stay fishing until rest of the group rises. (1 week in waikiki, Oahu, 1 week Kaanapali, Maui)  I have had mixed reports on if taking a packable surf rod on the trip is worth while, and there are few top tier predators in most surf fishing areas, Like trivoli, baracuda,  and jacks.  I was planning on surf casting plugs and swim baits in the 2-5 inch range to hit the general size of the food chain.  I know you do not need a liscense to salt water fish, but am not sure about these two locations "fishability" if these beaches are regulated with no fishing or are frowned apon, or if done early enough it would be ok?  there are wave breaks and rock outcrops near both places I am staying which I would probably target.  Planning on all catch and release so I am not concerend about size limits etc as much but plan on stopping by a bait shop to pick up regulations just in case.  I do know that the diamond head natural area in Oahu is off limits to fishing this year, but as of now there are no restrictions on the "hotel row".  any info would be greatly appreciated as this is just a past time I thought would be a fun way to see some bigger fish up close and release.  If it is hard to get access or no hope in catching fish than maybe I will skip it, what do you "saltys" think?

Thank you in advance for any advice,
    Domkaaj

Hey Domkaaj...I used to live in Hawaii way back when I was stationed there in the Army. I know we would go up to the north shore and in Pearl Harbor to go fish from shore. I'm not exactly sure of the locations because it's been over 20 years, but what you should do is this. Bring your tackle (travel rod) then when u get to where your staying, go to the local bait and tackle shop. Ask them where to go fish from shore, what's biting, what bait they are hitting on etc, etc...That would be your best bet. Good Luck.
