I was listening to a Spence Petros interview the other day and the topic turned to best value in fishing rods. Spence's point was that there is a huge difference between a $30 rod and a $100 rod but the difference between the
$100 rod and a $400 rod was much smaller, to the point of being not noticed by most anglers. He went on to note that TFO has introduced a line of Gary Loomis designed bass and walleye rods that sell in the $100 range. Anyone got any info or experience to share? Tom

I've never used a really expensive ($300+) rod but I can tell the difference between my $100 and my $30 rods. I never use the cheaper ones for finesse fishing because the more expensive rods are a lot more sensitive. That said, I don't think I miss too many bites on the cheaper rods because I don't feel the fish. My feeling is if you have the money, spend it. If you don't, the cheaper rods still catch fish.

I've had a TFO 7ft. medium heavy baitcaster since they first came out over a year ago. I like it a lot, it's my go to spinnerbait and chatterbait rod. I don't really care for the split grip, but I can live with it. I would say that it's slightly heavier and not quite as sensitive as say a Loomis IMX... much less than half the price too. I think that it's one of the better $100 rods out there.
