I recently had the pleasure of traveling to the state of Oregon to visit my sister. She lives on the Oregon Coast and lives a few hundred yards from a freshwater lake called Lake Cullaby. This trip took place about 3 weeks ago so the bass bite was NONEXISTENT! Still way too cold in Oregon. I fished for hours for the bass but eventually I decided to utilize my time better (As the bass were not interested) and start fishing for the steelhead in the lake.
I know, I know. The fish is small. But hey, it was the first one of the year so to me it was beautiful! The lake was dead. I didn't see a fish jump the whole week I was there. It took me hours of patient and dedicated fishing to catch just this one fish. I let him go to grow bigger. I was here for the sport.
I eventually turned my sights to night fishing. As it was virtually impossible to catch anything during the day. I fished the stream that fed off of the lake called Cullaby Creek and looked what I pulled in! A nice little Bullhead catfish!
Ugly little sucker ain't he!? I put him back in the stream and set my rig back up. Now, I don't know when catfish spawn, but they must have had recently spawned because I caught about 15 of these little guys!
Smallest catfish I have ever seen!
The next night, look what I pulled in! A big ol' perch! We didn't even know there were perch in this creek. Let alone perch of that size.
The next night I caught a few more decent perch.

All in all it was a very good trip. I didn't haul in any "monsters" this time, but fishing is fishing. I am happy to catch anything! And to be able to travel to Oregon,  a state in which I had never been to before, and fish in "uncharted" waters, was a unique experience that I won't forget!

Ive never had a bad fishing trip. I've had some nonproductive trips, but never a bad one. We went to Oregon last summer and I was going to buy a 3 day license before we left. There is a lake that gets stocked a few miles up from where we stay that is in the Oregon Take a Kid Fishing program. Good trails around the lake, easy access for the little guys, all that. I accidentally stumbled on a news release saying the lake I was planning on fishing with my son was going under "rehabilitation" during the time we were going to be there and they were draining the lake. So I chickened out and didn't find an alternative. That might have been my first bad fishing trip. Show up to the lake and there isn't any water! lol
Good things come to those who bait... Hoss in Wa

Captain Quantum I'm not 100% sure but your small bullhead your holding in your hand and being you got him in the creek could be what we call a "stonecat"!!!!   Did it have a very flat head and blue eyes ???   If so the one you have is full grow they don't get much bigger than that in my neck of the woods in NE Pa. When we would collect them for bait we always did it after dark....

If your interested there is quite a bit of info on this site which will send you to one with even more detail.

I don't recall the color of it's eyes. And I've never heard of a "Stonecat" but then again I don't regularly fish for catfish so im not an expert on the species. I caught about 20 of those little ones though. I think I caught the same ones a few times too ha ha!
