Hey guys , I was just wondering how you go about catching largemouths on a reservoire when they are spawnign but its too murky to sight fish. I have been throwing soft plastics. How do you go about catching in the dirty water spawning ? |

in stained water I like dark and/or noisy baits. Cranks, lipless, etc with rattles or spinnerbaits w/colorado blades to get a good thump and soft plastics in something dark like black/blue or junebug. |

Use a lure that looks like any kind of fish. The bass might not be hungry but it will bite it protecting the nest. |

Hello jfolda it is a public res. it is 12,500 acres and when it is full its about 1088 feet deep in the main channels. it is a great place to fish but you need a boat to get around not to many places to fish from shore.where are you from? JOHN |

if you cant see the fish try a tube, a wacky rigged senko, blades, texas rigged lizard you might even try a frog moving it slow over the bed area. they cant stand it looking down over the bed. good luck. Scott |

Thanks guys. Sr robertson1, i tried the tube thing in some grass in 2 ft of water in a big cove 100 yds down from a main lake point. Through it in there and 5th cast caught a 5 pounder 21 1/2 incher. She was skinny so she mustve laid her eggs already and was guarding the nest. She woukldve benn about 6 with a full belly. Also got a few more bass. Looks like they are spawning in grass and around wood in protected areas with a hard bottom. Im catching in the same areas I caught them in prespawn, just shallower and a LOT slower. Thansk guys and good luck out there. |

This weekend I caught largemouths in all three stages of the spawn. Pre-spawn, there was a pair in the spawning process, nearby was three observers, and I snagged one of them. Spawn, caught a monster momma while the male was on the bed. And Post-spawn, found little ones hiding under grass mats and snuck a wacky up close and protecting dad popped out and smashed it. All from the same pond, and all within probably a +/- 100 feet of each other. I was really surprised to see them that differentiated in their cycles, and so close together. |
