Hey there. So me and my brother have been fishing a local lake last few days and haven't really caught much. Other day we went and both of us were having no luck pulling anything in. He was using a rapala crank (cant specify) and I was using a jointed rapala firetiger. We were putting our lures directly in front of their faces and they weren't going for it, even switched lures a few times to make sure it wasn't a color selection problem but still had the same problem, nothing would bite. I even stumbled upon a school of bass topwater feeding and put my lure right in the middle of them with a surface popper... nothing. I was wondering if anyone had any advice to maybe if its not their prime feeding conditions or time of year yet. Weather has been rainy so was wondering if that may be a factor in this. Any advice would help, thanks! (by the way, I'm a fishing noob haha)

The one factor that trumps everything is weather. You can count on fishing being difficult for a while after a cold front. The fact that the weather was rainy would lead me to believe that a front may have passed recently! Only thing that you can do after a front is to slow down and maybe try a finesse tactic.

well I never really considered using softbaits that day, probably because i left them at home :p I will have to try that. And yes the weather has been cold and wet so I guess a front did come through. It was just making me so damn confused how they would not bite something with so much vibration and color right in front of their mouth! I guess it makes sense now that I think about it. alot of people say match the hatch when it comes to fly fishing. Color wont mean anything on some days. Try using some live baits or something natural that they have been eating. Even a small bluegill. Ive been catching bass on those gulp alive minnows.

I would try everything...that means don't leave anything at home...lol After a cold front, it will be a bit more difficult, so try to slow down...everything...your presentation...slow roll a spinner bait..etc, etc...finesse fishing...I fish saltwater in NY...I was out in the rain and cold these last few days for Stripedbass...it was tough, hard fishing....it's not fun when your cold and wet and not catching...

I live in PA and the fishing up here is very strange at times. Some times it seems like they will eat whatever you drop in the water, other days it takes a slow rolling spinner bait or just a twitch of a senko to get them to bite. I use soft baits A LOT, as well as a Zara Spook for top water, Buzzbaits, Spinner baits, and occasionally a crank bait. But 90% of my fish are caught on a plastic worm or creature. Try pitchin a Yamamoto Hula grub into the weeds of this pond one time...You will never forget that, I promise you!
