Hello fellow members me and the family will be visiting your fine state this july to visit my wifes family. They dont fish but I'd like to take the boys out for alittle while if possible. We will be near the cape the first week we are there and more inland around East Douglas the rest of the time, I believe. Would like some info on some charters or other places to fish. I'm from Kansas and never been  to the coast to fish would like to take this chance to maybe do some deep water fishing. Looking forward to visiting your fine state.

Pier fishing is never bad around there, olsmoke. There are some great charter boats around there that will take you out for anything from stripers to bluefin tuna to cod, too. (Stripers are best around that time, some topping 40!) The big name around here is Stellwagen, its about 15 miles offshore and the cod fishing is amazing (It's federal water so no striper fishing there, unfortunately). A quick Google search will yield a bunch of results for charters around that area (I may even be working on a tuna boat this summer, maybe I'll see ya!). Good luck.

Thanks for the info skewl. I've been looking at a couple of charters on line. As for pier fishing, How big of gear do you need all my gear run 10# test line or are there places around there to rent gear?

Not sure about renting gear, but the right setup will run you around $40. The norm for stripers and local bluefish is 25 or 30# line on a 10-12 foot medium heavy surf rod and a matching rod. Believe me, you will have no trouble finding a cheap surf setup there for short money, check a local Ocean State Job Lot, I was there the other day and they had them with tackle for like $25.

Now that my daughter lives in Boston, I'll be visiting more often maybe do a deep sea fishing charter out of Glouster.
