Only when fishing spoons or spinners. Otherwise, I just use a simple wire cross snap to attach lures/hooks.

I never use swivels when it comes to hardbaits. The fish can see them and they affect the performance of your crankbaits, swimbbaits etc. Just use swivels when still fishing while using live bait.

When trolling I use a swivel between the braid, lead core and the leader material. Otherwise I tie direct to the terminal end.

I have always been hesitate to use swivels--don't want anything extra between fish and me.  Later in my bass fishing life I have come to use a loop knot (the one Rapala use to put diagram for in their lures) more and more--it seems to add more action to the lure especially crankbaits and topwater.  I do use swivels sometimes when I am catfishing to keep them from tangling my line badly.  If you use snap swivels you may want to press the snap part in from the open position to keep the fish or hangups from opening it but then you have done away with part of its usefulness.  Good luck and good fishing!  Uncle Tom
I built my own lure company as a young man--thus the name UncleTomsJigs. It grew so well I decided to give it up and go fishing with family, friends and especially grand children. I became disabled as a United Methodist Pastor IN 2002 and retired here in Coastal Georgia on a 10 acre lake where I continue to fish despite my disabilities. My wonderful wife and I enjoy fishing together. God has blessed us in so many ways and we pray the same for you. I am excited about having so many new friends all over this great country.

Swivels are a must when fishing some rigs that tend to induce line twist like some plastic baits, spoons and spinner rigs. If you are going to use a swivel, use a high quality ball bearing swivel and as small a size as you can get away with. As far as snaps, I don't hesitate to use them but only use the duolock or coastlock type that are made from a single piece of wire and nothing else. the interlock style with the brass sleeve are prone to failure.
