Another good technique, is if you pay close attention to the tides, and wade out on the flats at low tide you can hit these deep offshore channels. I have caught some of my biggest fish out of these. But be safe and pay attention to the tides and where you step. Always wear a life vest when wading, especially if you are new to it. I grew up fishing flats at low tide with my dad. I had a rod/reel, he would cast net. wonderful memories...Happy Fishing

I agree with this about low tide. Would like to add that I look for a runout, go as far as I can (leaving my hearing aids on shore) and cast out as far as I can. The Whiting will follow the runout and the larger fish will come in after them and the finger mullet. Depending on the time of year I will wear wadders. In my experience, the incoming tide is the best time.

Good pointers zeke...... When I was growing up, me and my father would fish inland saltwater channels....when the tide was low I would carry my fishhing reel/rod while my dad used a cast net.. Caught more mullet than we could carry sometimes... I feel safe to assume that you would agree that if your fishng the tides (high or Low), be very diligent to the changing tides... the last thing you would want to do is get caught a mile or two out on a sandbar...
