As i wake up this morning from a nice weekend, I am reading on the web and ran across this piece that deeply disturbs me.. here is a  excerpt from the piece......

"At the same time, the fishing industry's beginning to realize there's yet another potential problem brewing with the administration. This one concerns a draft water policy industry insiders say could be used to create "user conflicts" that would be the rationale for zoning/access closures for virtually all national waters, including the Great Lakes and inland tributaries to the coasts; virtually all national waters other than watershed lakes and ponds.

The concern's fueled by the National Ocean Council's release of a series of nine draft action plans aimed at "addressing challenges facing U.S. oceans and coasts along the Great Lakes." Those nine plans will serve as the framework for the White House's new National Ocean Policy. That's an initiative set into motion last year by President Obama via an Executive Order. Executive Orders mean by decree and without oversight from the Legislative branch.

A portion of the proposals are innocuous enough, educational initiatives about relevant water resources and such, but one area that's of tremendous concern to recreational fishing interests is the practice of coastal and marine spatial planning. In it's simplest form, the proposal is government-regulated zoning of the sea.

While it's described as calling for a regional approach to marine planning, there's absolutely no doubt that there will be conflicts between recreational interests and animal rights groups wanting to create what are essentially huge tracts of off-limits waters. Granted, it's not a clear-cut situation, but fishing industry execs have told me there's real concern that this comprehensive plan has the potential to turn into the national equivalent of the California Marine Life Protection Area (MLPA). As one director of Environmental Affairs for a major tackle manufacturer told me "this could get very ugly for recreational fishing."

this topic on the forum may not be directly about fishing, but it gives me great sadness. A lot of us fishermen depend on public access for our various fishing adventures...... and by possibly closing off our access, would severely limit our ability to our favorite spots.........

Piece is from an outdoor newsletter I subscribe to...."The Outdoor Wire"

When the US Gov. wants something, then they'll try to take it regardless of any consequences. They have tried taking our guns, [and failed] now they are working [with help from anti-animal groups like PETA] to take away our fishing and hunting access on public lands. And now the Ocean??

Maybe we common folks can fight back with "If we can't use it, THEN neither can the shipping Industry." That will throw the US Gov. for a loop cause then goods from overseas can't make it into the USA and into stores and companies they have [members of Congress] stocks and bonds in. They can't make any money if nothing can come in to sell in the USA. HA- Ha - Ha!!!!!!

Right now it would fail as there are too many hunting and fishing members of Congress to pass such legislation. Will have to watch in the future, who we elect & make sure they are [pro fish and hunt]

Right now the Gov has too few agents of any type in hunting or fishing to enforce such a law. It will hopefully dry up and blow away!!

One name for those areas is Marine Reserves and no they idea will not dry up and blow away because the people in PETA and the anti-gunners are basically religious fundematalist hate groups. Or at last some of them treat it that way.

unfortunatly these groups are well organized and well funded. I know there are groups out there who are trying to fight these groups but in my opinion what is needed is a large national group similar to the NRA. maybe there is and I just don't know about it. it makes me wonder if these folks or our government realize how much money recreational fishing brings in each year.

They know.. I believe fishing and hunting brings in over $$300 million alone in license fees. Then add all rods, reels, bait, terminal tackle, Gasoline, new and pawned shop bought guns, ammo, boats ,motors, ATV's and food, drink, and other items used in camping, hunting and fishing. It comes to quite a bit.

PETA, Greenpiece, and others, agreed, are well organized, // but when man/women gets cornered in their rightful heritage of rights and life styles, we have always fought back.

At the worst we could lose some fishing and hunting areas, but we can adjust and just go somewhere else.

It's certainly coming down to a battle in court [or with guns] of rich vs poor man with very few middle class folks left. However we can still fight back even if we have to, EVEN use ever member and non member of the NRA to fight these Anti's. Blow away several of their Anti leaders [the head] = and the body dies. Not sure the Anti's would want to fight against well armed citizens and shooting experts. Esp. if we went to Gorilla Warfare on them.

Hunting and Fishing will be here forever  even if we have to go armed with buddies as back up every time we go out. I just hope and pray. it never comes to having to arm ones self to enjoy their favorite sport and past time.

I'll give up hunting and fishing when they pry either my rods and reels or guns from my cold dead fingers. And if I take a few Anti's with me. That's just too dang bad for them.

They aren't as large or well funded as N.R.A., but BoatU.S. is a national watchdog organization that protects boating and fishing rights through their lobbiests  in Washington. They are committed to no increase in ethanol in our fuel destroying our motors, but are up against the hugely rich and powerful ethanol lobby that wants to force E-85 on us all. Ethanol is a LOUSY fuel, very inefficient and expensive to produce, a huge waste of land and resources. Corn is a very poor producer of ethanol; sugar cane an excellent one. If our country want's to put low amounts of ethanol in our fuel, why don't they buy it from Brazil who produce it from sugar cane? Any way we can keep from financially supporting our enemies in the middle east the better, but Washington has a BAN on ethanol from Brazil!?!?
Sorry for the rant. Anyhow, go to www.boatus.com and check them out, then become a member and help in the fight for our boating and fishing rights.
    Happy fishing.
