using 80 lb flouro and just haven't been happy with my knots-can't seem to cinch them or they just look "iffy"

Hmmm....80 lb fluro is kinda thick, but it can be done. Try using a rapala knot. I use that knot when I troll an 8 ounce Bomber parachutte rig using 80 lb fluro leader. If tied correctly, it will give your lure good movement and it won't come loose. Just remember, no matter which knot you are using, you have to moisten the line so you can tighten the knot without weakening it. An easier knot to try would be a uni-knot, or the palomar knot. Main thing is to moisten the fluro before you tighten the knot. Good luck!

I have never fished with anything that heavy but my experience with fluoro is that it tends to break after even a small nick. I agree with the titanium or at least a wire leader.

Fishing with wire or titanium leader isn't the answer....Fish like stripedbass for example will spit out the bait before sucking it in if they feel anything unusal, (wire & titanium). When I fish for stripedbass, there's almost always bluefish present...and they have teeth...sharp teeth...that doesn't discourage me from using flurocarbon leader...80lbs is strong....and it isn't that hard to tie knots with it. You have to moisten the leader before you cinch down on the knot.

I have not used much FlourBut when I have I have never tied it to a hook just eyes on swivels and lures. I run the leader through the eye twice leaving a small loop, bring the tag end up and wrap it around the main about 5 times, bring it down and run the tag end through both loops near the eye and back up and through the loop left when you brought it down. Stick the whole thing in my mouth to get it wet and carefully pull knot tight. This has worked for me and I have never had a knot break. If you don't run it through the eye twice the knot will pull right out. I have even started using this knot with the Maxama Ultra Green that I mostly use.

Well I don't fish for Stripers or Blue fish, but I do for Pike and Muskie and have never had the problem you describe of them spitting it out due to the Wire/Titanium Leader. So I'll keep fishin em , I have had em bite thru em on occassion tho!!! but hey thats part of fishin!!!!!!

I use a trilene knot on my 80# flouroleader with only about three wraps. I may fail to fully cinch my knot but I find that burning off the end of the flouro tag line helps to prevent it from slipping. I've hauled a huge snapping turtle with it and had to do tug of war against them at shore. Not giving those snappers a $20 muskie lure. Really wished I had some extra long fishing pliers then. The whole time, hoping the snapper wouldn't bite down on the leader.

Tom, I have never had an issue with floro leader material, even when saltwater fishing.  I use the Palomer knot exclusively on leaders...Make sure you wet the line before cinching though!   80# test will be tuff to pull tho!  If I need a leader greater than 40# I go to steel or titanium...
