Tying a hook and/or a swivel to monofiliment line around 50 LBS test with a Palomar knot is a good start, although many anglers like using a loop knot. For heavier test line try using a clinch or uni-knot. If joining a heavy leader to the main line, a surgeons knot is one of my favorites but a properly tied blood knot or uni-knot also works well. Be sure you cinch your knots tight!
