Which color do you find more productive? And I was wondering, when fishing for panfish in the creek they usually go for bright colored lures, however, when I go panfishing in small lakes or ponds, they go for darker colored lures. Does anyone have a hypothesis as to why this is going on? Thanks.
Fishing.. one of the few things in life that keep me sane.

I have my best luck in a murky pond with firetiger lures, they'll hit literally anything as long as it's firetiger! As for your question, the reason may be the different types of forage in the pond vs your stream or the water clarity itself.

Part of the theory behind firetiger is that it incorporates three of the colors fish recognize best and therefor work in many situations. I have found that it is hard to go wrong with firetiger anytime a brightly colored lure is called for. It may not be the best but will usually work.

I fish for sunfish with a 5 weight fly rod and my most successful fly is a yellow/brown foam cricket on a #10 hook.

Both are good colors to have/use. I have caught many Crappie and LMB on them at Harry S. Truman Res this year. I find Chartreuse [esp] Black and Char.] works best in still waters like a pond or lake or with an elbow spinner like on a Bass Buster lure. I think twister tails outdo tube jigs in still water. Where both can work in moving water.

Fire Tiger sems to better [for me] in moving water such as creeks, streams, or water let out below Res dams.

Firetiger incorperates colors fish like in moving water,.... where all that color might make them somewhat relunctant to strike in still waters.
However still waters will get you a good share of strikes on fire tiger

When I'm unsure, I'll go with Firetiger.

    Happy New Year, Guys!!!

Hey vweeks, hope you're doing well. In murky water, either chartreuse or firetiger will do. You have to let the fish tell you what they prefer that day, so fish both: solid chartreuse, or the contrasting colors in the firetiger. In clear water, natural colors & subdued (mild) colors are best for pans. In streams, rivers, or muddy lakes & ponds, the gawdier the better IMHO.
Keep the hooks sharp, the line fresh & have fun fishing. God bless you. -Sonny
