I'm only 48 now, but I want to start planning for my 50th birthday present to myself which would be a fishing trip to Alaska with my wife (an avid fishing lady from who grew up in San Diego's waters and have fished with me for halibut and salmon on Vancouver Island) and teenage daughter. We want to fish for halibut, salmon and other species but really unsure as the best way to approach this trip. I was considering an all-inclusive resort or renting an RV upon arrival and drive to the fishing locations. But, we also want to bring home part of our catch as well as visit some of Alaska's beautiful country. We'll be budgeting our funds, but still want to enjoy our trip. I would really appreciate any kind of suggestions that you folks in Alaska can recommend.

I went to a recent outdoor show in Bakersfield, CA and talked to several Alaska fishing resorts representatives and now we're really excited about going. Sometimes, a vacation is all about having everything set up before arrival to make the trip a little less stressful. We will fish for halibut, Kenai River salmon and then take a fly-in trip for some fly fishing trophy rainbows. Just call this first trip a mostly all-inclusive trip. Maybe the next time, we can take a leisure trip with the RV. You can't call it a "Once in a Lifetime" trip if you come back again and again, right? |
