I am new to walley fishing and have been trying to catch walleye at LaDue Reservoir in NE Ohio because I can take my kayak there. The difficulty is, there is a major problem with the white perch population. No matter what bait or lure I use, a white perch is attached to it within minutes or even seconds of dropping the line. Is there any way to avoid these pesky fish, or can anyone recommend another inland lake within 45 minutes of Cleveland where I can fish for walleye without this problem? (Pymatuning is too far for just an afternoon and Mosquito would be difficult in a kayak with no horsepower limits.)

Other than using bigger baits keep as many fillet size white perch as you can. Another lake to try is Hodgson in Ravenna, it's an electric only lake also but it is also a pay lake. I think a season pass is $10 and a day pass is under $5.

Not easy if it is that bad, personally I would find another location just like I do on the big pond. You can also try moving your bait higher in the water column
