Hi all. This is the 1st time I've been able to get on and post since the 1st.

Everytime I would click on the Login link...my browser would close out...and I would get a Microsoft Error Report starting like this...

    xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-16"
    DATABASE
    EXE NAME="iexplore.exe" FILTER="GRABMI_FILTER_PRIVACY"
        MATCHING_FILE NAME="ExtExport.exe" SIZE="144384" CHECKSUM="0xE4CFFC5E" BIN_FILE_VERSION="8.0.6001.18702" BIN_PRODUCT_VERSION="8.0.6001.18702" PRODUCT_VERSION="8.00.6001.18702" FILE_DESCRIPTION="Internet Explorer

I did a 'Net search on Google and found nothing.

Then I tried Yahoo...and found out that the "GRABMI_" was part of a Software Compatibilty package by Microsoft.

Here's a link to their article...

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/294403

I then checked my computer...and found I didn't have it.

I then remembered that there was a compatibilty button on the browser toolbar for IE8 (see below)...

    Photobucket

So once I clicked on it...I'm now able to Login and post.

This is the VERY 1st time since IE8 came out that I have had to use this feature.

That's never happened to me, but I'm sure at least some of the members are having trouble with that.  My biggest issue is speed!

I have that button come up only on some websites and not on others, including this one. Do you know how to show the button when it's not there? I've been having a very difficult time going around the site lately.

Try this before you sign in...

On your browser toolbar, click on Tools and look for Compatibility View. Put a check by it if necessary, then login in.

As far as the slowness goes...once I'm signed in and on the main Forum page...if I want to read a specific topic or go to a sub-forum, I right click on the link and open in a new Tab. That seems to be a little faster

Hmmm, I will have to check that out, what I have been getting is something on the order of " Microsoft has detected a problem and closed and re-opened the website". It will do this twice and then one gets a note saying they cannot do it anymore to avoid causing a loop o something like that. I asked a friend in Spring Valley Ca to try it and he also got an error message. I am on a Mac in Oak Hills, CA and seem to have not problem at all. Interestingly enough, I have not problem at all with my NAHC account. When I get home I will check "compatibility", thanks for the help Dave.

You're welcome guys  always happy to be able to help someone...as so many others on here have helped me through the years

@ Allen....if that doesn't work for you...consider signing up for the Apple Forums. Someone on there may be able to help you

It's been 6+ years since I've done any software testing on a Mac...so my knowledge is basically zilch at this point

Hey Dave! I had problems with this site too, weird logins and errors on this and some other sites, gave up trying for months due to my eye problems. My desktop runs Firefox, rarely ever using IE. I finally turned it in to the computer shop a few weeks ago due to severe low speed problems, told I had a "back door" worm none of my virus programs had noticed, which apparently had been in there a couple of years. They found all kinds of activity I wasn't aware of. Everything, including this site, is working perfectly now with a new big hard drive and other gizmos, and so are my eyes with two new implanted lenses.

Good to see yer still watching out for the club.

    Jim

Thanks Jim...and great to see you on here for a little bit yet again

And yeah...I commited to being a Life Member...so I gotta do a "good deed" when I can

Glad to hear you got your 'puter fixed. I have issues with mine too still...but after scans with 5+ different antivirus / anti-malware programs among other "tests"...I'm sure that I don't have any of those types of issues

Woo Hoo!!  Thanks for the tip on setting Compatibility View from the IE 8 Tools menu.  That solved my NAFC website problems.

    Thanks for sharing the "fix"!

Welp...I see they done something that doesn't even allow us to use Compatibility View anymore

So I guess we'll see what happens next

This is the first time in awhile for me and I see that not much has changed! This site (not the people) is an insult to the entire membership...

That seems to be the general consensus Turnip, personally I wouldn't know anything better...its been this way since I joined back in February. What is it that everyone is looking for? They complain that there isn't enough of this or that...then they disappear for another month or two. I can only make so many posts a day, how about a little help in here? 8 out of 10 posts around here are on a "good morning" thread, and evidently, that isn't drawing a big crowd.
