I'm Fishing Lake Taneycomo Twords the Table Rock Damn and Next to a Fish Hachtary..In other words its where the trout are stocked and you are only allowed to use Flys for Fly Fishing and Artificial lures..If I could learn to Fly Fish in 3-4 Days i would but a fly fishing pole and learn but i dont think it will be possible..So I ask what artificial lures can out fish the others becuase Taneycomo is Fished HARD! The Place i fish at is FISHED HARD..If anyone knows where a good spot to catch trout at Tneycomo is it would be greatly apreicated and also any Lures or Techniguies that would work also its late july it gets hot..When should i fish for these Trout? Or what should i look for to fish at? Sure theres Weeds and Trees but they r either to far out or trees are in the water but theres no way to walk there...Please Help Thank you |

Don't panic! I have fished this spot with great success. Bow spinners work well here, both Super Bow and Baby Bow . (eggersspinners.com). But the trout are focussed on a small tan shrimp that hides in the gravel bottom. When you wade out the trout will gather close to your boots, not because they are tame or friendly but because you are kicking up these shrimp. If you want to use a fly rod you won't have to cast, just tie on a tiny sinking pattern in tan color, kick up the gravel to atract the trout and than drop your fly into the feeding fish. I caught and released 65 trout in about 30 minutes there, using this method and caught two with my hands. When you get tired of pulling in this easy prey, move down stream and try throwing big spinners for the very large Browns. Good Luck Don't go without your Bow Spindoctor |

This type of fly fishing is easy because it is basicly close quarter drop-shotting with finess. You can even get by tying the tiny fly to light line on a spin-fishing outfit. For spinners, try Black Lightening Super Bows or Black Pearl Super Bows, with gold blades (real gold plating), Gold SB's and Copper SB's can often be hot as well. Baby Bows in Black Pearl, Gold, and Gold/Silver can also do very well. Check out barbless or the new single hook ONE-Der Bows they're dynamite. eggersspinners.com There is allso a free sample of the new Golden Rainbow Spinner, it's multi-colored hematite body catches trout and other fish like magic, but components are rare and I may not be able to add these to my line-up, so for right now they are only available as promo samples for a limited time. Right, and one that sinks, about the size of a woodtick or match-head. variations of grey or cream-color may work well also. |

This is an active dam, and they open and close the spillways very often, so the water varies from deep to shallow depending on the dam. When the dam is closed the water is low, and it is at this time when the fishing is best. During these spells of low water you can easily wade almost all the way across the river (you need waders, you can get by without them but water is cold), with the method I discribed, there is no casting nessessary, just wade out and the trout will come to you. When the spillways are open the water gets high and fast so fishing becomes very difficult, so move way down stream and cast spinners. Early morning is always good, but it depends on the dam activity and this goes according to electrical needs so there is no set schedule and the dam can open and close several times a day, and usualy llasts a couple of hours at a time. (the dam sounds a warning) As for the method, I just waded out to about waist-deep water (this movement usualy atracted a few trout), At this point I would stop and begin stirring up the bottom by kicking my feet around, this would atract fish from a great distance and soon I would have a large school in a feeding frenzy banging into my waders, at this point I would just drop the fly into the mass of trout and hang on. There is usualy a lot of people fishing here so you will probably be close to a lot of folks, but the trout don't mind, in fact this can work to your advantage, wade out amongst them and go to work. Don't forget to tour the hatchery, it's fun. |

You're probably using way too small of spinners and not getting down to the fish. Also make your casts upstream and retrieve with the current (the direction that the water is flowing). Fish face upstream and few things come to them from behind except danger or things strong enough to get away. All their food is carried to them on the current. Retrieveing with the current makes a natural presentation and can greatly increase your production. In big water use big spinners. |

Here is the address of the artical that I wrote for catch-n.com, on that 2004 outing in Taney Como. It has photo's and discription of the conditions and fishing. http://www.catch-n.com/phpBB3/viewt...=75&t=2519Try it and see if it works. Hope that it helps. |
