ok boys and girls i told you my strange tips not here is a new idea i wanna hear your strangest and or your funniest stories about either how you caught a fish or about a fishing trip. lets hear what what happened that made it so it stays with you. ill even start ill tell yall how i got started fishing in salt water.

my x-hubby said that women cant fish and dared me to see how well i do compared to him since i said that he wasn't in the right spot and that he was casting wrong since he got me in the back with the barbed hook a few times. and it still had the bait on it. so i took the extra rod he took all the time picked it up moved about 4 yards down from him where i saw the fish swimming and made him eat his words. i stuck a worm on the hook cast in to the center of the school and came back with a good sized one almost right away. all day i was catching them while he was not getting anything. he kept saying it was beginners luck but the other guy that use to fish with him said he was wrong that i knew more then i let him know. that i was fishing like a pro.

this one is the one that sticks the most cause that was the first and last day he ever got a hook in my back every and that was the day he got proven wrong about judging people even women before he knows the hole story.

Ok you got mine now lets hear yours.

Well, it's not exactly strange, it's funny to some (Not me, of course), but here's my first experience fishing with barbless hooks.
I am in California on business, and got the weekend to do some fishing. I found myself in a little park in Oakdale, CA. The Stanislaw River runs through there, and you won't find a prettier stretch of stream fishing.

I didn't have "trout" equipment with me, having instead a travel spinning rod with 20# test braid and bass lures. But I decided to try this stream. There's a nice park guy there, and he lets me know I need to fish barbless ... and I crush the barbs on a 2 inch suspending minnow and a couple of worm hooks.
I start fishing with the minnow, get a strike on the third cast. Get another strike a few casts later. I switched to a natural colored Creme Worm, hooked weedless and weightless. I finally catch a fish and it's a pretty little fish called a Sacramento PikeMinnow. I got a picture of it and sent it swimming. I managed to catch several of those. But here comes the "Funny" part.

I went back to the minnow. I caught a beautiful little rainbow, or brookie, but it was dark colored, about 7 inches long and a red swath down the side, beautiful. While trying to get the camera in position, the slippery little guy slipped off the hook and swam away, unpictured. Same thing happened with a definite rainbow a few minutes later. This one was 12 inches and lighter colored ... again, beautiful, again slipped the hook while I was fumbling with the camera.
Then I hook a nice 16 or so inch brown on the worm. I get it to my side (I also don't carry a net when I am travelling) and it slips the hook too. If I'd had barbs, I'd have pictures of every one of those fish.

For every fish I caught, I missed at least two hits. It was a great trip for hits ... barbless sucks for catching.
