    I recently received a Penn Slammer 6'6" Roller rod for my offshore fishing as a gift, and I prefer a spinning reel, but am not sure whether this particular rod is casting only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    That rod will not cast well with a spinning reel. It is designed for a conventional reel. I use a roller guide rod with a Penn Peer reel for flathead catfishing.

    i only intend to use it for speed jigging or regular jigging, dropping straight down. It's going to be my offshore salt water rod.
