I don't own a boat because well im 14 and non of my family has a Boat so i fish off a floating dock in a place called BLACK CREEK because well you cant see a foot down and a lot of boats come and go and there are no lily pads or patches on grass there and i was wondering whats the best way to approach that places?

The creek is maybe 10 Feet deep in the middle and its maybe 20 - 25 Feet wide

    What kind of Hook?
    What Bait?
    What Time?

    Thanks

Sounds like a tough situation. Try drop shotting or weightless wacky rigging  4 to 6 inch plastic worms in watermelon color in the shaded area of the dock. I'd guess any bass would be on the small side, so I'd say a #1 or 1/0 hook. Fish early and late in the day, bass' favorite feeding times.

When all else fails, LIVE BAIT! A worm or minnow will work wonders on pressured bass.

Hey RRichards...This is what I would do...I own a boat, but I fish in saltwater, in NY. When I go Upstate NY, we visit this lake where I freshwater fish for Bass. There, I don't have access to a boat so I fish from shore...Texas rig a Yamamoto 5 inch senko, green pumpkin color on a 3/0 or 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG Hook. Fish it slowly and you should be able to hook up. That is my go to rig when I'm Upstate fishing at the lake. The times I would fish are early morning, just when the sun is coming up and in the evening, just before the sun goes down. Mid-day can be productive, but your more likley to hook up at those times I mentioned. And don't be hesitant to experiment. The more your out there, the more you'll learn and be more confident in yourself and your gear and tackle. Good Luck! Let us know how you do!

That is correct. Live bait is a good choice as well. When I was a teenager fishing in Florida I had great results using live shrimp!

The water is stained...you can see down to about a foot or two...But the disadvantage I have is, I have to cast out about 10 to 15 yards to get to the drop off...if i don't make a long cast, I'll most likely get caught up on the rocks and weeds. But clear or stained...bass will hit the senko. Fish it weed less, that helps out alot with getting caught up on rocks, weeds etc...

I think i may have two more places im going to look at, Ones a HUGE lake that ill stand on the shore with and it has lily pads.
The other is a Small creek that has still water and lily pads anyone think those might be good places?

Couple of thoughts- The bigger the lake, the more water you need to cover. The old saw is that 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water, just which 10%! Lily pads are almost always a good place to start. It would be helpful to know where you are fishing. Just a general area, say southeast Georgia or such. Have you talked to anyone at a local bait shop?

Lily pads are a good start like Pegsguy said. Use a frog and skip it over the pads, experiment with your retrieve...also you can get a 3/4 - 1oz gig (maybe heavier depending on the thickness of the cover) and use a twin grub-tail trailer on the gig...That might work as well...The cool thing about bass fishing is experimenting and using different lures...what worked yesterday, might not work today. Have fun, and always try to learn something new each time your out on the lake. I've always fished in saltwater, and up until about 4 years ago, I didnt have a clue to freshwater fishing...mainly Bass fishing. I did my homework and learned alot over the last few years. This last trip Upstate NY, I caught and released 9 bass, all quality size bass. All on different lures. The best was using the new Iaconelli's Berkley Havoc Devils Spear. This is a pretty big soft plastic bait, and this little 9inch largemouth slammed it!...It was great...All worth it!

Pegsguy & Barresi have it right.. fish the heavy cover.. I prefer heavy jigs, 3/4-1 oz.with a trailer(' may be a tad small, but the ferocity that some fish crunch that bait with just shows you the quality. I just ask one thing.. REMEMBER to Catch & Release!
