    Hey  there,
I have a 1976 85 HP Mercury (four cyl. 850) and need an internal harness for it. Has anyone got one in decent shape they'd be willing to part with? Reasonable price or maybe we could make some sort of deal. Perhaps you know where I can get one...?
                            Thanks,

i needed a wiring harness for a 1978 50 hp Mercury a couple years ago. I got one from a place in Georgia, I think it was www.georgiawatersports.com There is also some info on www.oldmercs.com that I have found useful in the past. Good luck!

Thanks Hoss, I did check out those places. I found another site that is advertising the harness for $105 but the shipping was really high. They suggested I e-mail them about less expensive alternatives so I did. Then I called them and they were "...busy helping another customer"- TWICE! Still no reply to my e-mail OR my phone messages! I'm thinking I may buy from one of the other places- somewhere that really appreciates my business even if it costs a bit more...?

Sounds like that boat of yours is really giving you fits of late!

I've thought about pulling of the bow lights and mounting a new boat under them! LOL I (we, my Dad was a big help) got the steering cable replaced then I turned to the battery re-location project. Turned into a nightmare but I finally woke up. I THINK everything worked out well- I say "think" because the first trip out was when my harness decided to give up the ghost. There were several wires that were/are in very poor shape like, falling OFF in my hand! It's a wonder it worked at all. Now I'm researching getting a new one or re-building the old. I MIGHT have enough good wire left on the old one to make decent connections. That's probably on the 'to-do' list for today. Wish me luck!
